Pitch Black was a real entertaining surprise a few years ago and I'll definitely see this. I have to concur though that the teaser on the pitch black website was more intriguing than the trailer.

Vin Diesel barely in the CHRONICLES OF RIDDICK teaser. Odd.

Anyone else think it odd that the hero and star of this mega budget film is barely shown in the teaser? Most of the action shots were of other actors. And Vin Diesel's name is not shown (though his voice was unmistakable. Yum.).

So much money spent on a Vin Diesel epic and almost no Vin Diesel = ???

By the way, I thought it looked really interesting. Though the actor they cast as the villain does absolutely nothing to scare me. I could beat him up and I'm just a girl that weighs 120 pounds.

Death to PG-13! And now death to DVNR too!!

That is kind of odd, but it seems like they were trying to pull in the Sci-Fi audience with the cool visuals instead of the big Vin Diesel fans. Myself, I thought, "This looks kind of cool and stylish." Then I heard Vin's voice. The film could prove me totally wrong, like THE MATRIX, but I'm among the camp that thinks Vin Diesel can't act his way out of a wet paper bag.

methinks its because its still being shot... teaser showed semi finished footage and effects... I remember the same thing when the second XMen 2 teaser came out... all shots were quick and from the same scenes... since the teaser came out only a few weeks into shooting. I bet that the next official trailer for Riddick will feature a lot of Vin in it.

Fairly lame trailer, but Pitch Black earned Twohy (yet another) freebie, so I will go to this.

My wife's only comment: "What is Judi Dench doing in this???"

She'd never seen Pitch Black

Take care,
Chuck

Yes.

Movies I would purchase instantly if they were available in their correct aspect ratio:
Death Trap, Innocent Blood, The Shadow, and Remo Williams

I'd bet it's because the last vin movie tanked at the box office.

so he doesn't have as much "clout" right now. so why make him the only draw for the movie?

He's not a big a draw as they thought a few years ago. Anyone remember A Man Apart?
He wasnt missed with the Fast and the Furious sequel either.
Considering his limited acting range (think Steven Sagal and Sylvester Stalone)I am betting his 15 minutes are almost up.

The preview is pretty intersting though.

In the 1/16 issue of Entertainment Weekly there was an article on this very subject... "Fuel For Thought: A Trailer Low On (Vin) Diesel" (News And Notes section)
They speculated that he was low profile after bombing in so many movies after Pitch Black (like, ALL of them). The Director Of Marketing said that "Sci-fi fans are more interested in a good story than a superstar actor" (paraphrased) I think anyone that considers Vin Diesel a "superstar" or an "actor" brings new meaning to the term "science fiction".

About the best acting job Vin Diesel has done was as the voice of the Iron Giant.

As for the teaser, I thought it looked really interesting until we saw the bad guys (or what I presume they are). You hear Judi Dench speaking of these creatures that leave these huge monolithic statues and force you submit or something, but then they turn out to be these normal looking people in stupid costumes (that are nowhere near the design quality of the "airy" art up until that point in the teaser). I lost interest at that point, because what seemed like it might be mysterious with some interesting creature villian, turned out to be somebody overacting in a lame costume.
