Every once in a while a film comes along that becomes, due to stories of turmoil, unhappy fans, etc, the recipient of unfair criticisms. With all due respect to our own Scott, I believe this has happened with The League. Some of the comparisons to other disasters I feel are unwarranted.
IMO, it's nowhere near as bad as the reviews are making it out to be and I actually had a really good time watching it, as did the near sellout crowd I saw it with. I was expecing the worst and was pleasantly surprised.
It's not a perfect film by any means, but it's also NOT the disaster that some are saying it is. I thought it was entertaining from beginning to end. Lots of action and big dumb fun. Never dull and full of interesting characters in a familiar story.
I had some problems with the hectic editing in some spots, and some continuity errors, in addition some of the effects work, visual and practical, was sloppy. I thought Hyde looked pretty bad too.
But on the whole, it was a good time at the movies, harmless fun, and to me, at least as entertaining as Pirates.
Judge for yourselves people. I did.

Did anyone else notice XLG took the Seven Samurai start in its first half-hour? Anyway, XLG is one of the worst movie I've seen this year. I'm so sick of dialogue that are base on one liners.

On the otherhand....
I found LXG to be one of the Summers best Saturday Matinee Popcorn Flicks.
One in which you can sitback and just enjoy the sheer excitement of.
If anyone (IMO) walks into this movie expecting anything else, they will be disappointed.
It reminded me so of the AIP days and the serials of yesteryear.
Perfect film..... No....
Entertaining Film...... Yes.

After seeing the movie, I must really admitt that It is far worse than the previews lead me to belive. That said, your probably better saving your curiosity for a one time rental fee.
LXG, did a good job of reminding me of WiLL Smith in "Wild Wild West" The league is comprised of all of the aformentioned characters including Dr. Jekyl/Hyde. I was appauled by the horrid cgi transmogrification that occured here. The animators made him look like a mutant male silverback.
Honestly, sincerely I am all for films in good fun, especially the supernatural and implausible, but this film with all of that and Sean Connery just didnt deliver.

I love when people blame CGI when it isn't CGI. There seems to be a built in bias against it. It gets blamed for any type of effects that don't work.

EDGE FX’s Hyde looks good, looks, as O’Neill says, nearly exactly like his illustration, but the transformation back is terrible. It seems the idea was to do it all with make up, but it just went horribly wrong. You see, they have these lovely appliances of Hyde in various mid-moments of transformation back into Jekyll and it seems the plan was to have the actor in the various appliances twist for the camera, cut… put him in a new one, twist the other way, cut, put him in a new one till they ultimately had no make up at all and Jason Flemyng is left standing there… shivering. CLUMSY, FUNKY, BAD. It’s just a moment, but the sort of SO AWFUL moment that you’re left gasping at how on earth it could possibly be in a film that at this point was quite nicely put together. http://www.aintitcoolnews.com/display.cgi?id=15621

It's a mainstream Hollywood summer action flick. What else will people expect of this film other than a popcorn movie. I haven't read any reviews of this movie prior to my viewing. My only notion of LXG was from the trailer. Pirates of the Caribbean was entertaining. I almost feel alseep in League of Extraordinary Gentlemen.

How could Mina Harker see her own reflection in her compact mirror?

Maybe she wasn't a full vampire as she could stand sunlight too.
I gotta agree that the Hyde transformations were poorly done. He also reminded me of the albino newborn Alien in Alien Resurrection, meaning that it looked really bad.

The League pulled in $7.7 million on it's way to an estimated $24 million weekend. Not bad considering the devastating reviews. Curious to see if it has legs. I hope it does.
