Larry Clark is at it again...

(As reported in the New York Post)

As if "Kids" and "Bully" weren't bad enough, his next film, "Ken Park" shows underaged kids having sex with each other and with adults.

After seeing the movie at the Venice International Film Destival, critic Lee Marshall of Screen Daily wrote:
"The male organ...is persuaded to jump up and down and get excited, and over-excited, all in graphic detail"

I know "Kids" and "Bully" were meant to show how badly today's kids are doomed, what is he trying to say now? I think I get the point already.

I haven't seen Bully but I thought KIDS was brilliant, if not a bit disturbing.

You know, Fred, if you keep your sense of humor like you do, you just might make it.

Larry Clark continues to push the envelope on exploitation and controversial scenes. This time he profiles a handful of dysfunctional families in Visalia, CA.

From Todd McCarthy of Variety (potential spoilers):

Quote:
The picture begins with the title character blowing his brains out one sunny day at a park. Then there's a teenage boy graphically servicing his girlfriend's mom; the "good girl" daughter of a Bible-quoting dad who's really a bondage-loving nympho; the autoerotic asphyxiation freak who masturbates in loving close-up before stabbing his grandparents to death in their bed; and the drunken macho father who sexually assaults his sleeping son.

Exploitative, deliberately provocative pornography? Courageous revelation of the secret life of teens? Calculated sensationalism? Telling it like it is? These are the arguments that will inevitably cause fur to fly anywhere in the vicinity of "Ken Park," a sexually explicit slab of teenage ennui from that self-proclaimed expert on the skateboard set, Larry Clark, working this time in tandem with ace cinematographer Ed Lachman.

And in true Larry Clark form, Todd McCarthy notes:

Quote:
The true nature of the film, however, is summed up by the scene in which the father stumbles into Claude's bedroom to utter his lament. At first it looks as though he's just going to fall asleep next to his son, and this would have been enough to convey the desired message of intimacy desired but thwarted. But, no, the filmmakers, in their relentless urge to always go all the way and point up how beastly people can be, insist upon having the father attempt to force himself sexually on Claude, who wakes up and reacts violently before matters go too far.

I did see it at a local museum (The Whitney) a couple of years ago and thought it was some of the most amazing photography I have ever seen. I think that some of Clark's talent has made it to the silver screen, but he does need a better screenwriter than Harmony Korine.

I heard this movie is already bought up by Disney, and they'll show it uncensored and uncut on ABC this Christmas Eve. I'll wait until then.

This guy sounds like a demented sicko. Think I'll take a pass on his films.

If it's as good as Bully, I'll be seeing it.

As far as being a demented sicko goes, well, that's just high praise in my house. I do, after all, often drift off to sleep with Pink Flamingos or Female Trouble or Desperate Living playing, to make sure I have fun dreams.
