Re: Ghost Rider...can you believe this?
I thought Nick Cage was great as Blaze but most of the time I was just looking at the giant boobs on the screen. They should have been given their own credit.
I had really high hopes for this film and up until the halfway point I was really happy. Then it started it's decent. I'd be interested in a longer cut since the runtime was so short. It seemed a bit rushed for me.
I'll be all around in the dark, I'll be everywhere. Wherever you can look, wherever there's a fight, so hungry people can eat, I'll be there. Wherever there's a cop beatin' up a guy, I'll be there. I'll be in the way guys yell when they're mad. I'll be in the way kids laugh when they're hungry and they know supper's ready, and when the people are eatin' the stuff they raise and livin' in the houses they build, I'll be there, too.

Re: Ghost Rider...can you believe this?
Enjoyed Cage. Elliot was pretty good too.
The rest was a rush job featuring the most pedestrian direction imaginable (e.g. 'How is my driving?' on the bumper of the semi).
6.5/10 (a full 2 points for Cage and Elliot, who are fun to watch).

Based on his commentary, he purposely lightened things up as much as possible to enhance the "commercial" appeal of the film. He was comparing his film to "Constantine," which he acknowledged was a good film but far too serious and dark which limited its commercial prospects.

According to Box Office Mojo, Constantine made $230 million worldwide while Ghost Rider currently stands at $228 million worldwide. Constantine did better than Ghost Rider overseas.
So, Johnson must be talking about American audiences then.

Probably. I believe GR nearly doubled the domestic gross of Constantine.
Though I personally enjoyed Constantine much more.

Re: Ghost Rider...can you believe this?
Yea Cage and Elliot were great to watch. The movie should have just been called Johnny Blaze because his part of the movie was much more interesting than Ghost Rider, who beat each bad guy in 3 seconds, and in lame ways.
In the end, another Marvel film that won't be added to the collection.

Not quite. Rider made $115m, so it would've needed to earn another $35m to double Constantine's $75 gross...

You're right. I was thinking GR did close to $140m.

Re: Ghost Rider...can you believe this?
I netflixed this last night. It was abysmal. One of the weakest films I've seen in years. It was 100% surface, and bad surface at that. It felt like the person who made it (Johnson) had never even seen a movie...just a lot of trailers. Not because of hyper-editing, but just based on tone and structure.
Absolutely no organic flow to the film.
I can't say this too often (but I am a sucker for supernatural thrillers, so I saw this)...but I hated this thing. I did enjoy Constantine quite a bit. But that had a much more talented director, better acting (Weisz or Mendes push-up bra???, Stormare or Bentley???), and everything else was better
Hate,
Chuck
