Lo, there do I see my mother, and my sisters, and my brothers, Lo, there do I see the line of my people, back to the beginning, Lo, they do call to me, they bid me take my place among them, In the halls of Valhalla, where the brave may live...

It sounds like the making of a great movie. Also, Peter O'Toole, Julie Christie and a few others have also been cast in roles (not sure which yet).

I believe O'Toole is playing King Priam of Troy, and Christie is going to be...I forget her name, but Achilles' mother?
I'm really eager to see the movie. This one and Hellboy are the movies I'm most looking forward to next year.

In addition to the addition ( ) of Peter O'Toole and Julie Christie, Brian Cox is also on board this movie.
With such a fantastic cast and source material hopefully this will be a return to form for Wolfgang Peterson. Troy could definately be one of the best movies of 2004.

I'll bump up this thread as it has the most recent discussion. This movie has the potential to be a great, great epic.
The cast is great, especially that of Peter O'Toole who as King Priam will have some great dramatic scenes even though the early script review shows:
Honestly, I wonder if Brad Pitt can pull it off, Achilles has some of the [exaggeration due to the Illiad's place in history] greatest dramatic/angry speeches ever written [/exaggeration] so the performance must be powerful. I wonder if, comparisons to Gladiator aside, Crowe should have been offered the role. The guy does a good job of capturing moments of controlled rage.

Don't know how I missed this thread. That does sound like one hell of a cast. Can't wait to hear more.

That would be Thetis, a nymph (minor divinity).
I know nothing about this production. Am I to take it that the movie will approach the material from a mythological-fantastic point of view rather than present it as a "historical" narrative? (I would assume the former in view of divine characters like Thetis.)

The script review that was on AICN about a year ago specified that
Of course this is about a year old and probably has changed. Also it was just a script review, and I haven't seen the script posted anywhere.

I was quite disappointed with Gladiator but I do have to give it credit for relaunching the historical epic genre. I have high hopes for this movie, together with the Hannibal and Alexander movies. Let's just hope that they are good !
