While I may agree to an extent, I can't believe that the first reply on this thread was a thread-fart.

Anywho...

I'm cautiously optimistic.

The story is also expected to feature his encounters with other mutants -- some we've seen in the earlier films and some that we haven't.

The flick will reportedly start shooting in Australia before moving on to New Zealand and New Orleans, Louisiana.

New Orleans, huh? Could we finally get a glimpse of Gambit?

Re: X-Men Origins: Wolverine

I consider Gambit one of the lamest X-Men ever, and I ditched the comic before they really drove him into the ground (wikipedia for the shocking [to me] details).

I'll put it this way...the fan casting for Gambit when he was popular was Jean Claude Van Damme That says a lot.

I do apologize for the minor thread fart. I hope they do some neat stuff for this film, because Hugh made Wolverine interesting again, for the first time in YEARS. I don't expect much, but maybe Jackman and Hood have some nice tricks.

I'm sure they'll shoot for PG13, but I wouldn't mind if they made a decidedly R rated film here, something Kill Bill level.

The same is kind of true for Logan, though. Read his wiki entry. His origin may or may not have been great in comic form, but it reads like a bad romance novel in synopsis form.

I really hope we get more characters from the universe, too. I feel the same way Jon; even though I liked all three of the movies, the biggest fault of the X-Men movies was their neglect of characters such as Cyclops and Storm.

I would say Wolverine was a worthy character in the beginning who eventually became a casualty of his own popularity. Gambit just plain sucked from the start

That's my opinion as well. Wolverine had some great comics and great moments. They drove him into the ground as well...much harder than Gambit. But at least he had some good times

Re: X-Men Origins: Wolverine

Well, to be fair, not many X-men characters, or "solo" heroes at all, have their own comic series. I'm by no means a rabid comic beast, but everytime I'm in a comic store, people are talking about Wolverine. Everytime I walk by a display of the month's popular comics, something featuring Wolverine is on there. I think it's safe to say he's one of Marvel's more popluar heroes.

The same can be said of the movies, really.

Also, most would admit that Wolverine does indeed have one of the more interesting origin and backstory. It's certainly more entertaining than Cyclops' In fact, I can't think of too many X-men that have interesting backstories, since they tend to join groups, be the offspring of heroes, or be found by Professor X/X-men before things get interesting.

I think it all boils down to the series being 3 movies in, and the possibility of a 4th only being that, a possibility. Logically to squeeze more money out they wanted a prequel, and really Wolverine is the only choice here.

That all being said, I'll be the first in the line here to see it. I love Wolverine. Alberta doesn't have too many heroes
