New to Car Stereo

Home theater has been a passion of mine for quite some time, but i just bought a "new to me" car that i need some new speakers for. It is a 1999 Saturn SC2. Here is the situation:

1. The car has 4 6.5'' speakers and factory CD player.
2. I want to replace all 4 speakers, but not sure what else that i need (cd player, amp?)

I am considering 4 of these speakers http://www.woofersetc.com/index.cfm?...Product_ID=940

any suggestions would be welcome, such as do i need a new cd player or an additional 4 channel amp?

I had friends back in highschool that had jl audio car stereos and i think i remember liking the sound. I have paradigm for my home theater, not sure if that matters.

Thanks in advance.

Re: New to Car Stereo

well... a few things that need to be answered in this one (btw check the tutorial i wrote up in here... some basic things, but things that might help you.)

1. you plan on doing the install yourself?
2. what type of music you like, and what type of sound you going for?
3. what is the budget for everything? (speakers, amps, subs, head unit, wiring, sound dampening, etc)

answer those and i might have more insight... btw, JL Audio is a very good place to start looking, but their tweeters are metal domes and can be too harsh for some people, especialy depending on where you mount them.

JL makes fine products but they are sold at a premium price. If you want a bigger bang for the buck, you should look elsewhere. Elemental Designs has a component speaker that can be converted into a coaxial in a matter of seconds. They even include video instructions on their site.

Also, each upgrade will get you an improvement in sound. First the 4 speakers. Then a new head unit. Then a 4 channel amp. Finally, I'd add a nice sub into the equation.

So if i understand this alright, the cd player that is in there now should be able to power new speakers? and then in the future if i wanted a different sound i could replace it with a high end head unit, and add an amp.
