SIRIUS tops 6M, goes Cash Flow Positive
http://biz.yahoo.com/prnews/070102/nytu107.html?.v=82
This is a BIG boon for SIRIUS. They had downgraded from their original expectation in late November, which caused some skepticism, but they ended up topping 6M anyway; falling short of their prediction by 70,000, but still topping 6M, and having the largest quarter in SIRIUS history.
SIRIUS added a stunning 900k+ subscribers in Q4, it's largest single quarter since inception.
SIRIUS also entered into uncharted territory for Satellite Radio, reporting that Q4 was Cash Flow Positive (meaning more revenues brought in then cash out). This is due to a combination of subscriptions, advertiser revenue, etc.
XM has not yet reported Q4.

So much for "The Stern Effect" lasting one year. Plus, NASCAR must have helped the numbers enormously. I myself have 2 friends who waited until this holiday season to get Sirius for Stern. Being self-described "I'm not going to pay for radio" types, their disgust at the lack of good morning radio for the last year has led them back to Stern.

Re: SIRIUS tops 6M, goes Cash Flow Positive
This is good news. I can now say that none of my close friends are with out sat radio. I have one on XM and the others on sirius. Three of them just got Sirius this Christmas and have already told me that they wished they would have gotten it sooner.

i listened to stern for years, and now morning radio around here sucks. i envy the west coast, they get adam carolla. i download the show every day (and i enjoy it much more than i ever enjoyed stern). without carolla, i suppose i'd just listen to podcasts in the car. certainly not DLR! (or whoever replaced him on wbcn).
no offense to nascar guys, but how enjoyable can it be to listen to events on the radio?
CJ
And then when I feel so stuffed I can't eat anymore, I just use the restroom! And then I CAN eat more!

Re: SIRIUS tops 6M, goes Cash Flow Positive
Christ,
The NASCAR station is more about NASCAR talk then anything else. Yes they have the races and events however the rest of the weeks its filled with NASCAR Guests and callers talking about a sport millions of people love.
Much like the NFL Station on Sirius I expect that the NASCAR station will have a ton of listeners and it will be very difficult to get through on the phone lines.

Actually, listening to NASCAR events on the radio really isn't that bad, and it's a major plus when you're on the road and you can't find the race on a local station.
Also, Sirius is including in-car audio for 10 drivers during the races which I think is really cool.

Sirius to pay Howard Stern 22.1M share bonus
SIRIUS said it's paying Howard Stern a bonus of 22.1 million shares with a value of $82.9 million after it beat its subscriber targets by more than two million in 2006. Sirius signed up Stern in 2004 with an agreement to pay him a stock bonus if it beat its targets. The company added 2.7 million subscribers in 2006 to end the year with just over 6 million subscribers. The company's contract with Stern makes him eligible for further stock-based bonuses if the company beats an escalating set of subscriber targets by amounts greater than 2 million. Shares closed Monday down 1.1% at $3.76.

Re: SIRIUS tops 6M, goes Cash Flow Positive
I always wonder why Howard doesn't just throw some money backa t his fans.
Give people a couple hundred shares.
Brent
Kinda silly, but I'd like to think I would do that in his situation.
