Is it until 11AM or noon? They mentioned noon on the show today.
|
I believe that their "official hours" end at 11:00am but they will have the ability to go until noon if they choose to, unlike before when XM's "Master Computer" would cut them off at 11:00 no matter what. I figure that if they don't go long, the 11:00 - 12:00 hour will be filled with "Worst of" material which will probably be a lot of old WNEW bits since they now have access to that material.

Re: Opie and Anthony Returning to Terrestrial Radio
I wish them luck. With CBS's crossmarketing deal, it means that XM listeners will now get to appreciate an additional ten minutes an hour of commercial breaks.
I think this is a fantastic deal for O&A, we'll see about XM. Yes, it will proote XM. But for some, if you can get the milk for free...

And DirecTV...

Fans Speak, DIRECTV Listens, XM's Opie & Anthony Return to DIRECTV Programming Lineup
EL SEGUNDO, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 25, 2006--In response to numerous requests from fans of the "Opie & Anthony" show, a popular program on XM Satellite Radio's High Voltage XL channel, DIRECTV has returned the channel to its XM lineup. DIRECTV had removed the channel last week in an effort to move its XM radio service to a 100 percent commercial-free music format.
High Voltage XL is now available on XM channel 879 for customers who subscribe to the DIRECTV TOTAL CHOICE(R) PLUS or TOTAL CHOICE(R) PREMIER package.
In addition to XM's exclusive Opie & Anthony show, DIRECTV will also broadcast a new three-hour version of the Opie & Anthony show airing on CBS and simulcast uncensored on XM.
"The uproar from fans, pleading with us to put Opie & Anthony back on the air, was deafening to say the least," said Dan Fawcett, executive vice president, Programming Acquisition, DIRECTV, Inc. "And though our original intent was to focus our XM service on more music, we now understand the passionate following that Opie & Anthony have and we're happy to bring them back on board in an expanded format."
DIRECTV began offering 72 channels of XM's quality music, children's, and talk programming in November of last year, nearly doubling its audio programming lineup at no additional cost. Customers subscribing to the DIRECTV TOTAL CHOICE(R) programming package have access to 50 XM Satellite Radio's music channels and customers subscribing to the DIRECTV TOTAL CHOICE(R) Plus programming package and above will have access to more than 68 channels. DIRECTV PARA TODOS(R) customers will also have access to the same XM channels, as well as five additional Latin music channels.
With the addition of the CBS simulcast on XM starting Wednesday, April 26, DIRECTV customers will now get five hours of live Opie & Anthony every weekday on High Voltage. The simulcast will air from 6 a.m to 9 a.m. ET and the duo's exclusive XM show will air from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. ET with replays throughout the day. Hosted by Opie (Gregg Hughes) and Anthony Cumia, the show observes and comments on a wide range of topics related to American social and popular culture.
About DIRECTV, Inc.
DIRECTV, Inc. is the United States' leading digital television service provider with more than 15 million customers. DIRECTV (NYSE TV) is a world-leading provider of digital multichannel television entertainment services. DIRECTV is approximately 37 percent owned by News Corporation.

WoW!
So cool that the boys are back on FREE radio.
I'm listening to them right now with all the FREE background static.
A great day indeed!

And now I have something I can listen to when I wake up in the morning and get ready for work. Don't have XM or a computer in my bedroom.

Re: Opie and Anthony Returning to Terrestrial Radio
I don't have satellite radio (yet) but I remember when O&A were just a couple of local boston DJs here in MA, on WAAF-they were funny as hell (way before all the FCC stuff). Howard was on in the morning BCN ) and O&A were on in the late afternoons-good times. I think I still have their CD that they put out with all their best bits. Oh well, good to hear them again anyway.

Re: Opie and Anthony Returning to Terrestrial Radio
I actually went into this thinking I was going to hate the new show with all the censorship. I was really angry when I first heard about it. But now I find myself listening to it more than ever. The dual-format has really been a boost to the energy level on the show. I've been a listener all the way back to Oct of 2004 and have never been happier with it.
BTW, when the ratings come out, I guarantee the media spin will be "O&A fail to bring Stern numbers back to CBS" rather than "O&A gives CBS large ratings increase over Roth". I predict their going to do very well, but still nowhere near the numbers Stern was able to pull during his final months. It just isn't possible. O&A were WFNY's best bet to bring quick ratings in without rebuilding from scratch.

Ron, why would you be listening to them on WFNY? Aren't you hearing the dump button quite a bit?

Re: Opie and Anthony Returning to Terrestrial Radio
Jeff,
That was just for the first day that I sampled them on FM.
Add me to the list as another person that loves this dual-show
format. It is working out quite well as XM subscribers get even
MORE hours of O&A listening pleasure than ever before.
A lot of people I work with are hearing O&A for the first time and
liking what they hear. It's a real cut above Roth, and the most
obvious replacement for Stern.

Re: Opie and Anthony Returning to Terrestrial Radio
I gave OnA a listen the other morning on 94 WYSP and while they are much better then Roth (then again I think one of my buddies and I could do as well as he did) I didnt listen long since they were doing Gay Chicken... Old bit done a billion times over.
I will check back again though, something I didnt do after two days of DLR.
