Anything 'wrong' with this amp?

I'm only familiar with the more well known brands. I've never heard of Boss. I will be powering an 8" sub in a very small sealed enclosure. I need speaker level inputs on whichever amp I choose. Can I power my amp by hardwiring to a cigarette lighter plug? There is one in the rear of my SUV where I will mount the sub.

thanks!

For $70 it will make sound for a year... if you are lucky. They do not sound very good, and are not very reliable.

Thanks Jesse. What usually goes wrong with these Boss amps? I was under the impression that most modern electronics were pretty reliable as long as they worked trouble-free for the first month or so of ownership. What makes the Boss amps not sound so good? What amp would you recommend for under $100 to power my 8" sub?

thanks again
Jim

What are the specs on the sub.. wattage and such? Unfortunately low-balling to sub-$100 price range won't get you much at all, imagine doing the same thing for home audio.

With that said, this amp is in your budget. It's a tad cheaper new on ebay but you don't get Crutchfield service.

This is the 8" driver. That Profile amp does look nice! And looking back at the Sounddomain.com page now, it looks like the Boss amp is no longer available
On a related note, do you think this driver will work okay in a .25 cu^ft sealed box?

Go to this link http://www.bcae1.com/ and use the enclosure calculator to determine box size. It also may have answers to any other questions. Boss is not best brand of amp. It has a bad reputation of not outputting its rated power. Profile is not much better. Go with something that is class D for your sub. They draw very little current and don't get hot. So you can use that lighter wire from your other post.

If I remember correctly I believe the average car lighter is only designed to output 15 amps. I would check your fuse box to see how much current your lighter will let through before blowing.

You might be able to use this amp. Even after shipping it should come in just under $100. Another amp that was recomended to me just today is this, It should also come in under 100 after shipping

I plugged the stats into winISD for your sub and it looks like you about have to put that sub in a small vented box. At .25 cu^ft tuned for about 38Hz you need a 2in port almost 15in long ... and you hit -3db at about 42hz but it should be ok due to cabin gain in the car I would assume.

Im a relitive newb to others using winISD and box design so I would recheck those numbers before you go building anything.

Thanks Mark! I don't think that first Kicker amp has speaker level inputs, but the others look right up my alley!

thanks!

Jim, I highly recommend the MTX 4202 amp. I've had one for over a year pushing my Dayton 12"DVC in a sealed enclosure in my car. I paid about $100 for it and have never regretted it! Great deal!

God bless!
