Newbie XM Advice: If I don't need a deck...

I have a 3 or 4 year old Pioneer Premier DEH-P200 deck that I would like to keep. It has an auxillary input.

Is it true that I can buy the pioneer XM receiver (looks like an amp box and has no digital display...gets attached in the trunk I would imagine...retails for $99 at Best Buy) that can wire right into the deck and that is all I have to buy (besides the subscription)?

Does anyone have this running like this? Will it show me the name of the station? Can I put favorites on a channel button like I can for radio? This is not an "XM" deck, but I have heard that I can listen to XM this way.

Anyone have experience with this? Thanks!

I am not sure if that would work but it would be interesting to find out. I just don't see how your old deck would know how to tune in the stations, but then again its your aux input so who knows, I certainly don't. Either way, you still need an antenna which runs about 30-60 bucks.

Tom,

The Pioneer XM Tuner connects to Pioneer decks through
Pioneer's proprietary P-Bus interface. If your deck lacks
the P-Bus then I don't think you can use the Pioneer XM
Tuner. But you could always buy a Delphi SkyFi and a PIE
Adaptor and use the Aux Input on your Head Unit. The Delphi
will send the signal into the deck via the aux in.

The add-on XM tuner is compatible with any Pioneer receiver with all of the following:

1) the letter "P" in the model number;

2) a "Function" or "F" key; and

3) an 8-letter character display.

If your head unit has all of these features, then XM will work just fine.
