Can I connect DVD and speakers to a new flat TV?

I'm not sure if Im ín the correct area for this question. This is my first post.

My 34" Sony XBR CRT died. I have a 5.1 Sony speaker system which was an option at the time.
It came together with speakers and a 5 disc DVD player as a complete setup.

I was thinking of a new flat panel TV.
My question is can I hook up my Sony sound system with DVD to a new TV?
Or do I have to go out and buy a new DVD player along with the TV.

I will upgrade my dvd player to a HDTV in the future along with the speakers.
I just can't go for all the expense at once.

I got a quote of $500 to fix the 34" so I was thinking its time to upgrade.
If I can't join the DVD and speakers to a new TV, maybe the repair is the way to go.

What do you think?
I appreciate any suggestions you have.

I really need some ideas.
Thanks,

Walt

Not quite, because you've already posted this question in Basics and received a response. We allow one thread per topic; so please continue the discussion in the original thread:
