sub placement/bad enclosure?

Hey guys, i'm having some issues with my HT setup. I use it mainly to play music, and the occasional movie.

I'm running two 12" GR Research drivers in a sealed, separated enclosure, each seeing about 1.2 cubes of air space. I'm running them on a Carvin DCM1000, giving each driver about 250 watts at 8 ohms. My receiver is a Yamaha HTR-5280.

I used this exact setup in two different bedrooms, neither of which provided very much bass. I currently have it setup in my family business' office, which is attached to my work garage, so the stereo is used mainly for music while i'm working in the garage. I'm heavy into the car audio world, so naturally I wanted something a little more extravagant than tv speakers for movies n such.

No matter which way i face the enclosure, no matter where i place it, it just doesnt produce much bass. I had the same problem when i ran a 15" dayton titanic in a vented enclosure. Because of that, i'm questioning either the amplifier or receiver as being the criminal in this case. I question the enclosure as well, but i've built a ton of enclosures, and never really had any issues with any of them as far as quality sound goes.

I have a friend who bought an off-the shelf subwoofer, which i'm sure was expensive, but it has an internal amplifier and is just a single 10 in a rather small enclosure, and it absolutely blows mine out of the water, no question. not even my 15" titanic came even close to how his sounds, and its rather upsetting.

is there maybe something about my amplifier? like it wasnt intended to drive subwoofers?

That's a quality sub in a good sized sealed box. You should have a flat frequency response.

The last sentence is the clue. Car audio bass and home audio bass are two completely different animals. I've read good reviews of the GR sub. I've read dozens of great reviews of the Titanic 15" in large, low tuned enclosures.

Most retail subs are tuned too high and have an unnatural hump in the frequency response around 50hz. The same spot where you get that chest thump feeling in car audio.

Go sample some quality bass in other homes. My 15" TC-3000's had this hump when I measured the response. I used a Behringer Feedback destroyer to flatten the response curve and make it flat down to 17hz.

Understandable about the flat response curve. Ironically, despite thats what you would normally want for a quality setup, i'm kind of seeking that hump at around 40-55 hz. I love my bass I'm not too terribly worried about how perfect it sounds, because hell, it's in a work office, and I watch movies maybe once every two weeks, i just want some heavier bass for when i'm playing music. (I listen to a lot of rap, rock, and metal)

I think the GR is a great sounding sub, but what i'm kind of afraid of is it doesnt provide for a great amount of output. I even ran them in my car for a period of time, but being as I ran two 15" titanics in my car before that (sold the setup), i couldnt stand to downgrade in SPL like that. So i bought two more titanics, and used the GR's in a HT setup.

shouldnt a dual 12 setup, with a combined 500 watts rms be providing a healthy amount of bass?
