The right audio system...
Well, I've got this projector, a Hitachi PJ-TX100 mounted and calibrated and all that; it looks fantastic. Now I need speakers.
I just had this basement finished and in the process had it wired for 3 rear/side audio channels (thinking 6.1). In retrospect, that may not have been wise, as few things provide a discreet rear center channel and the room isn't really large enough to need another channel just for volume. But whatever, I have three yellow speaker cables hanging out of the ceiling in the back of the room, and so I need 6.1 speakers.
I'm open to any suggestions, but thus far I've found that I like Pioneer's VSX-816-K/S and VSX-1016TVX, as far as receivers go. I haven't really found any speakers yet that I'm nuts about, but it's hard when my budget is roughly $700.
A few things I need...
- surround speakers to be ceiling mountable (including mounts or not, just so long as they're light enough and relatively small)
- receiver to convert composite video (from a VCR and older game consoles) to s-video (I was too cheap to spring for anything but s-video going from the receiver to the projector, but I had a conduit put in so I can run more cables if I ever want to buy a 30' HDMI cable. I'd like all devices to broadcast to the projector over the one s-video cable, though. I think those Pioneer receivers can do this.)
Any suggestions?
