Projector placement

I am currently finishing my basement and home theater and am trying to decide if I made the right choice for my projector placement. My room is about 16 feet wide by 22 feet deep. The back 75" is stepped up 6 1/4" for stadium style seating. If you are in the back of the room looking forward (towards the screen area) there is a metal beam approximately 10' in front of you that runs the width of the room. The beam iprotrudes about 12" from the ceiling. The front wall where the projector is is also lower because of a soffit containing HVAC ducts.

Originally I thought about mounting the projector in front of the beam by making a platform that would come off the front of the beam. I was a bit worried that there was only 12' between the projector and the screen, and the screen is about 12" below the ceiling height (because it sits under the soffit area).

My current plan is to place the projector on the back wall in on a platform that is built into the wall. The platform is 61.5" from the floor (which is the stadium seating area) The platform is 67.75" from the base floor. This height allows me to project the image below the beam and onto the screen without any keystone adjustment (projector is aiming almost dead onto the screen). Does this sound like a good idea, or am I placing the projector too low? I want the best picture possible, but I don't want to run into problems with my projector placement. I should add that I will have 4 or 5 seats on the stadium platform....not much else.

Re: Projector placement

I should mention that the picture was taking a while ago and does not show that the front wall was extended to the left to center the screen.

I have a Panasonic AX100U projector and am ordering a Carada Centerion 118" brilliant white screen.

Re: Projector placement

There sure isn't much traffic on this forum, there haven't been any posts in this section since yesterday afternoon.

Anyway, I decided to take my projector out of the box and play with it a bit. I found that the adjustability is very good and allows me to mount the projector about a foot higher than I had originally thought. I will keep the projector mounted inside the rear wall about 7 inches (with a shelf coming out from the bottom another 15 inches or so). It will be about 6' 3/4" from the floor, but the floor is raised 6 1/4" from the front of the room. It is roughly where it would be if I had purchased a ceiling mount (maybe a little lower). I'm much happier now and will sleep much better.

Re: Projector placement

I have a similar situation with a air duct, I did hang the projector from it.

Re: Projector placement

I have to ask but do you get much noise from the PJ that close to your seating position?

Re: Projector placement

During a movie I never notice it. I do hear it before the movie starts though. Due to the size of the room, the projector throw and that air duct hanging down, I didn't have much choice.
