Wiring and surge protectors

Hey guys. What is the norm for outlets on the front wall? I will have a projector screen, or a framed area with the special paint. Of course I will have a center speaker, and left and right front. My speakers are def techs which have built in powered subs. I was going to install three outlet boxes but that means I would need three surge protectors correct? Is there a way to wire in a surge proector before I start running the outlets in a series? Thanks

Re: Wiring and surge protectors

Considering you are going to be using powered Def Techs for the surrounds you would need five total surge protectors. I would just have a whole house surge protector wired into your fuse panel, I wouldn't recommend doing this yourself unless you are a professional. I would, however, suggest a power conditioner/surge protector for your equipment rack if only to provide you with enough outlets to power everything, not to mention switched outlets for receivers, DVD, etc. and always on outlets for the cable box, tivo, and VCR, if you still have one of those.

Re: Wiring and surge protectors

Thanks. Do you know how much a whole house surge protector would cost? Not the labor, just the device. Thanks for the help

Re: Wiring and surge protectors

I tried to find a link but neither Home Depot or Lowe's had anything on their site but i've seen them at both places for between $50 and $100.
