CableCard question - very Noob

If I have a display with an integrated HD tuner, do I need a CableCard (or box for that matter) to recieve HD stations or can I just plug the cable direct to TV.

I have another TV with and HD box.

I'm asking because I'm hoping that I do not have to pay for two boxes or cards. Thanks.

Re: CableCard question - very Noob

The internal tuner receives over the air signals, cable or satellite is scrambled and therefore needs either the box or the cable card.

For my SD TV's I just plug the cable direct to the TV and get all stations in my package (except HD, obviously and I do not have any premium channels)

My question is specifically about HD. Since I'm already paying for HD channels, will the TV's interal tuner, handle the HD stations or will I still need that Cable company's product to get those channels?

You will still need the cable company's HD box or the cable card because those are scrambled channels and require the additional equipment to de-scramble. To give you an example, I pay for HD as well but cannot receive it on my upstairs (SD) tv with a digital cable box but I can downstairs in the HT because I have their Motorola HD DVR. All other tv's in my home are wired directly to the jack and can receive only basic cable, no premium channels, no HD.

Give it a try...can't really hurt anything. You might find that you are able to receive a couple of the HD channels (least I've heard some say they have)...possibly just the major network offerings.
