I've never done any listening to different conductors to see if one could really hear any difference. Many better pieces of equipment use gold plated RCA input jacks. So I would think that it would be better to go with gold plated for contact issues. I would not get all hung up on marketing hype. I'd take a good tight electrical connection vs. just the type of metal coating. If it does not fit securely that would be a bigger issue in my opinion.

I'm pretty sure the gold is on there so it won't corrode away so it will perform it's best longer. I could be wrong though.
