Gets me at a -3 point of 20 Hz. and at 1 meter, max SPL's around 110-115 dB.

Seems for under $500, this would be hard to beat.

What am I missing?

ANOTHER QUESTION:

If I made a 15 cu. ft. box (HUGE!!!!!), the program says I would have bass well below 20 Hz. (like 15 Hz.) before my -3 point - would it really, or would the woofer not be able to do it (in a small bedroom)?

I am at work so I can't run the numbers but I would look at your linear excursion. I would guess that you will be going beyond 10mm and bottoming out that driver.

I would Highly suggest you look at this sub its $20 more but well worth it.

I used all the same stuff in a box that's between 5.5 & 6 cubic feet. I left the port full length. I chose the amp because it was on sale. The plan was for the 240 watt amp. I'm glad I bought what I did because I used the parametric equalizer to boost the lowest frequencies. I hope you enjoy your sub as much as I do mine.

I hope you have a RAdion Shack meter and some test tones. They'll come in real handy. Be gentle with the gain control.

According to unibox, the driver will be reaching 15mm excursion at around 30 hz. Even 250w will put it past the 10mm excursion limit.

A 250W amp and a 7cu.ft. box tuned to 22Hz would probably work ok.

I paid $12.50 for my table saw. OK, I had the lumberyard cut the panels for me. I used a jigsaw for the speaker and port cut-outs, and a circular saw for the amp opening. I also had to trim the sides, but that's another story altogether.:b

PE recommends a 5.5 cubic foot box. I messed with WinISD and this seemed the most feasable to me. I was able to cut all six sides and braces from one 4' X 8' piece of mdf. This was important because the amp. although I got it for $197.00 before Xmas, wa sa large cost overrun. Of course, if you figure that I would have needed a BFD or similar equalizer, then it saved me a few bucks.

I first tried a longer port but I hated the sound. I love a good solid punch for music and still have plenty low end for HT which I achieved with these babies!

I am running one Rythmic 350w amp running at 8ohm so about 250ish watts. I never bottom out and can run the full 350w with no problems.
