Some questions on a new Projection screen

Hello,
Just getting ready to convert my garage into a theatre room.

I am totally new to the home theatre thing.

I have started looking at some screens. I have looked at the motorized onee, the home made ones etc....

Any suggestions on where to start? prices seem to be all over the place from $200 to make your own to > $2000 for motorized one.

Are there some things i need to know , or is there somewhere to learn about what i need to get the bang for my $$

Thanks

Other than making your own you may want to talk to David at Carada. They make fantastic screens at a great price. Talk to him about what you are wanting to do, what projector you are planning on getting and he will fix you up with a great screen.

I made my 91" screen out of blackout cloth and wood frame for under $70.00. My rebate screen arrived 2 months later. I over lapped 1/2 the DIY screen with the other screen and played a movie. I really couldn't tell any difference. I am sure that the rebate screen is not a high-end screen though. My DIY screen is flat with out any wrinkles. Some pull-down screens won't lay flat. You can check it out here if would like:

Elite Screens are quite affordable for the budget minded shopper. The electric models INCLUDE either IR or RF Controllers at no additional charge.

They seem to be ok for the price. A few have had to return their screens for replacements due to waves and wrinkles, but it sounds like their customer service is good. There is a big post on the AVS forum about them in the screens section.

Would you happen to have the link to that thread on AVS. I have run a search and not come up with much.

Thanks
