I soon plan to upgrade some of the AV wiring in my system. Esoteric D4s and Belkin PureAV initially got the nod for my needs given my limited budget. Now I'm going from s-video to component video for my video sources and again have narrowed my choices down to one or the other trusted manufacturer for interconnects.
The Esoteric CVK4 component lines cost twice as much as the PureAV Belkin. However, CVK4s are the video equivalent of my D4 digital audio interconnects. As the Belkin lines will soon be retired because they were deployed for s-video duties, I'm somewhat interested in using Esoterics to outfit my system in cables from one product family. I've analyzed the specs for each product and the only difference I detect is the Class III shielding rating that Esoteric products enjoy. Honestly I don't know if that virtue justifies the additional cost. Can anyone give me knowledgeable insight into the significance of the rating? I won't spring for the Esoterics if it is primarily a marketing gimmick. On the other hand, if there is a pronounced & noticable improvement in performance from using Class III shielded lines then I'm all for it.
Thanks, Will
