My neighbor was over today and I was telling him of my plans and we noticed that the boards on the pre-existing walls that touched any part of the concrete was treated lumber, then the studs were not. Does anyone know if this is new code? I know termites won't mess with treated lumber and could just be an extra, although, my builder hasn't done anything extra up to this point so I don't know why they would spend the extra money unless it was code.

Yes, you should use treated lumber for any portion that touches the concrete. Main reason being rot prevention.

Ok, found out today that it is code to have treated lumber on the base of any wall touching concrete. Vertical studs or any other boards touching concrete do not have to be treated.

I used all metal studs and it was a breeze. Very easy to use and I used 5/8" fire code drywall.
