DIY screen vs. pro screen

Hello,

I posted this in another section with little response.

I'm projecting a 100" diag image from a Sanyo Z2 onto a home made screen (matt white stretched over 1x4s). I've used it for 6 months now and the poor black levels are beginning to bother me. I'm considering purchasing a mass produced screen like Da-lite with a High Contrast Gray finish.

Will this significantly improve my black levels or should I just consider buying a new projector (possibly a DLP)?
