Component to VGA

Hey guys,

I replaced my old DVD player with a Zenith DVB318, I thought the Faroudja and ability to upscale would make my pictures look better on my Epson 5300 LCD projecter, versus my old interlaced player. I come to find out that the 5300 does not accept progressive scan on it's component input (it's an older SVGA projector, probably from '98 - '99, 1200 lumens looks pretty good and the price was right (free) ) So I bought this box to convert 480p, 720p, and 1080i to VGA.

When I first got it, I hooked it up to an old monitor I had lying around and the picture looked BEAUTIFUL, but when I connected the VGA cable to the projector, the image was only showing green (seemed like it had no red or blue) so I set it up using a break-out cable, and plugged it in to the 5BNC RGBHV input on the projector - colors were there, but the sync seemed bad. I adjusted a lot of dip switches and made a few tweaks, and got it to look really good scaled up to 720p. Then I decided to try Star Wars. Looks like I have the new firmware, and it defaulted to 480p again, which looked horrible. Had to adjust the brightness all the way down, drop all the color saturation, and now it basically just looks OK. Certainly not better than my old Panasonic A110 looked. Other than figuring out if there is a way to disable macrovision, which would theoritcally mean I could upscale copy protected titles over component, which would also be illegal and not allowed on this forum, is there any recommendations anyone could make for me? It looks like it's basically just putting out a 640x480 picture, why would it look great on a PC monitor but not good on the projector? I really need to have this be workable over 480p for this to work with all titles.
