Component Cables

Mods, please move this if it belongs in another thread.

I just ordered an Infocus 4805 DLP projector for my dedicated Home Theater and need to get component cables. I'll need at least 12 feet to go through the ceiling to my receiver on the other side of the room. I may need more than that, so I asked a Circuit City salesman if they had anything longer than 12 ft cable. He said that a longer cable would degrade the signal. Question: Is he right or is he trying to make a sale? I'm concerned that 12 feet won't be long enough for my room.

Thanx in advance for any help.

D

As surprising as this may be, your Circuit City salesman doesn't know what he's talking about. As long as the component cable is a good quality RG6 coax, it can be hundreds of feet long without degrading the picture.

LOL! I know what you mean. But hey - I place Circuit City sales associates a bit higher up on the knowledge food chain than Best Buy.

Thanx for the info. That sets my mind at ease a bit. Any recommendations on a good quality yet relatively inexpensive RG6 coax?

    Hi Doug,

    Here is what i use

AR MS292 MASTER COMPONENT VIDEO 12FT
(Locking, precision-machined RCA-type connectors with 24K gold-plated split center pins)

I love the locking feature, i think they are great cables built really well too. You can get them @ Accessories4less for a great price, a steal IMO.

Thanx Terence! So far, that's the best deal. Anyone else who is currently looking for cables, or any other accessories, should definitely check out that link.

If you need a particular length, say 17.5 feet, then it's probably worth it, IMO, to have the cable built to that length and not have to deal with excess cable. BlueJeans would be recommended in that case.
