Two better than one?

Are two subs usual better than one? Case in point...Crutchfield will ship two JBL GT120's for $160. The Tempest runs $150 shipped. For just a home theater, would having two GT120's in separate enclosures be better than say a single Tempest. The Tempest would be limited to an enclosure size of 224L or below. The GT120's look like they would work great in a 95L enclsoure. I have an old Carver TFM-35 amp with plenty of power for both subs. The sub crossover and phase would be taken care of by the new Yamaha Rx-V750.

what sort of an alignment are you looking at for the JBLs i assume ported, even with it i think its pretty hard pressed to beat a tempest with two JBLs, in the sense that a 224L tempest can hit ungodly low.

Everyone in college should have a 9 cuft Tempest in their closest!
