How do I measure frequency

How do I measure frequency? What tools do I use? I did a search on "measure frequency" and noting came up. This must have been discussed before.
Thanks for the help.

Some of the software and techniques are discussed in the later posts of this thread.

Ummmm... what kind of frequency would you like to measure?

- A speaker's anechoic frequency response?
- An in-room frequency response? low frequency or full range?
- The frequency content of a music/movie soundtrack?

Jeremy already covered the last one...

Thanks Jeremy, that is perfect.

Rob, I am looking for the f content of music/movies and the in-room f response of my system. I have a some test tones from a Rat Shack disk and some other calibration DVD's. I guess I will have to invest in a decent mic for my computer. As for my speakers anechoic frequency response, I would rather invest my money in my theater than in a anechoic chamber. It is hard to invite a bunch of friends over to hang out in your "Home Anechoic Chamber." Makes for a dull evening.
