Is electrical wire okay for speakers?

Please help...work in progress.
I have miles of stranded copper electrical wire
that I have connected to my old stereo speakers.
It appears to be 14 gauge or bigger.
Is there some reason I should spend more money
for speaker wire for my new HT? The only difference
I see is the sheath is much thicker on the electrical
wire. And what about that "digital" speaker wire
Is that any better?
Thanks
Sherri

If the appearance is not offensive to you and, in your opinion, it is sufficiently manageable (high stranded copper is fairly flexible), then by all means reuse it. You may wish to cut an inch or so off the ends to expose fresh copper for your connections.

I've no idea what "digital" speaker wire is but it sounds like a word that multiplies the price of wire.

Wire DOES make a difference. I wouldn't use electricial wire for speaker wire.

I agree with Doug but you may want to go out and get a couple of short lengths of speaker cable to hook up to the main speakers and see compare the them. If you can't tell the difference then don't bother.
I'm not sure what "digital" speaker wire is.
