I just recieved my shiva from CCS and built a quick test box to listen to this puppy.

I am using a 7.5 mH inductor in series with the positive terminal to give me a 6db passive crossover @ 85 hz.


My problem is that I am hearing vocals out of the sub above this frequency range!!! Anyone have any thoughts on this matter???????????

IMHO you need at least 18db/octave cross over, a 6db/octave cross over for a subwoofer is not steep enough. I would look into getting an active cross over of some sort which im sure someone here can guid you to.

The crossover isn't a brick wall, rather the output above 85Hz is decreased at the rate of 6dB per octave.

I realive that that 6 db is the slope at which the frequency drops but does it sound odd to have noticable out in the 500hz to 1khz range ???

first order slopes mean

-6dB@85Hz
-12dB@170Hz
-18dB@340Hz
-24dB@680Hz

So yeap you'll hear lower midrange coming from the driver. Also remember that human hearing is more sensitive to the midrange frequencies. That's why 4th order (24dB/octave) are recommended for subs
