25+ ft cable run and coupling two component cables together

I am moving my A/V components to a rack in the hall closet over 25ft from the tv.

Will coupling two component cables together cause noticeable defects in picture quality?

Will the problem cause noticeable defects? It depends on:

- How big the TV is (larger display makes defects more visible)

- Are you pushing Component, Progressive, HD video

- How close to 75 ohms the existing RCA plugs and the barrel-connector will be.


These are all variables. Can you do a test run to see?

A better solution: find a local HT store that does custom installs. Speak to the wireing guy and see if he will cut the ends off your cables and install BNC connectors. These are a more professional connection, it has a twist-lock feature and maintains the 75 ohm impedence.

The best solution: order a custom cable for the correct length. A 25 foot run will cost you about $100. Considering that a 12 ft Monster CV300 cable is $220 - you save.

I'm currently running component cables from a progressive scan dvd player to a 53" HD tv.

Haven't purchased any barrel connecters yet to test the total impedance, but both component cables maintain 75ohm on their own.

I'm going to give it a shot and let my eyes be the judge.

Chris White has a web site that shows you how to make your own cables. I've made several and having the matched set of tools/plugs makes it simple.
