Stupid question, but I have to ask...

To be sure that I dont blow something up!

I have a pair of 14x4 Ixos bi-wire speaker cables. They are each terminated with 4 spades on the speaker end and two single bananas on the amp end. Here is the problem; I am moving to a speaker that is not bi-wirable.

Can I turn my biwire cables around 180 degrees and run +/+, -/-, off of each channel of the amp, and then plug the pair of bananas into the speaker?

I am not 100% sure what is going on under the cables shielding.

I was thinking about it as I was going to bed and realized just how stupid the question really was.

wasn't stupid at all Rob, but the trade for my sister in law still stands. you could also cut the wires (keeping in mind the polarity) and reterminate them with something that suits you better. however, why not just leave them biwired?

I am going to leave the cables "as is". I may sell them though and get into a single run of something better. Any suggestions? I need 7 feet each way. I am using a Kinergetics SS amp driving a pair of MagiMMGs. Budget is <$100, prefer to buy used.

I am also considering simply buying some cheapo 12/10ga and seeing if there is an audible difference. I have not heard the mmgs yet and am unsure if they are going to have the resolving power to make a cable investment worthwhile.

Whats your take?

Kinergetics still in business? It's your ears that are the limiting factor. Mine too!
Well I don't have any impedance curves on the MMG's but why not see who around you is selling RG8 (comes either 13 or 11 gauge I think) cable and hook those up. Low capacitance and low inductance. Should be cheap too.

I may give it a whirl.

Kinergetics went under a few years ago, but a few of the technicians are still servicing/upgrading the stuff on the side. Thankfuly I have not run into any trouble yet...I am going to replace it with a solid state CJ amp after I graduate in a few months.

RG8 is a generic term for a particular kind of cable.

I've no idea what their sales policy is but you can just tell them you're looking for X feet of RG8 type cable. They may have several variants. Just tell them it's for an audio application and you're looking for something that balances flexibility and low capacitance.

Mind you now, I'm not saying you'd be able to tell the difference in double blind test...
