A speaker in a coke can - could it be?

As I was looking at this Coke can, I realized I could built a pretty weird speaker out of it (don't ask me how I came to realize this fact - I guess the meeting I was in was too boring).

What do you think? Is it possible? I have looked for little woofers in Parts Express (I guess I'd need a 2" driver) but I can't find any.

It'd look very cool. Now imagine it with a small tweeter on top.

Would the coke can make it sound incredibly harsh and tiny, as the thin aluminum would reflect and boucne alot of the sound. A coke can isn't exactly a dead enclosure. But what do I know.

Maybe if you could get hold of the aluminum cone driver that
Sharper Image uses in some of their devices.

Cam, what if the inside of the Coke can was sprayed with sound deadener, or had foam in it?

The reasion I'm asking is, Sonotubes are often used for subwoofers. A Coke can seems to be an excellent enclosure for a small speaker. I can imagine it, with a couple of small stands, painted with a metallic lacquer and and clearcoat, with a small tweeter on top.

I guess I'll have to find a small enough driver for my tests.

Why even mess with a tweeter? I'm sure you could get a full range 2" driver.

A tweeter would make the thing like an R. Crumb cartoon of a B&W Nautilus, I think

I'll try it. I mean, how much can a decent 2" driver cost?

Crush a coke can in your hand. Now try crushing a sonotube. I think it should be obvious why a coke can would be a waste of effort.

Well, yeah... but the Coke can wouldn't be dealing with a Tempest, or a Maelstrom. It'd be home to a nice little 2" driver...

How cute. I could build mini-subs and sell them with a note saying "My dad is a Tumult"

If you want to play around with them you could always try some of these 2" drivers on clearance at Parts Express.

I wouldn't expect too much from them though. And definitely not in a Coke can.

That isn't the point. The point was that one creates a rigid enclosure that is not likely to add coloration to the sound produced. The other does not do this. I'd much rather use PVC pipe like these.
