Mark,
If you don't recommend Canare/Belden RG6 for sub wire, what would you suggest for DIY? I have a powered sub which needs a 50' line-level run from the receiver. I was all set on using L-77S and RCAPs, as frequently rec'ed, but now you got me thinking. Since this is a permanent installation (new construction), I want to get it right the first time.
In the meantime, I will check out your suggested sights. However, I would prefer DIY, so I can run cables w/o RCA connectors, then terminate construction.
Thanks,
Geordon

Geordon,
For subwoofer use the cable/connector combination you mentioned is not that bad and you could do far worse. I've used them in the past but found the Teflon insulated Belden cables (1506,1695a or better still the 89259)to be better for this application. The Teflon insulation provides tighter bass notes with better pitch definition etc.
FYI the 1506a and 89259 cable can use the Canare RCAP-C4F connector.

Mark,
How does the Canare L-4E6S (QuadStar) compare to the Belden 89259? I know these are two different constructions, but I have used the L-4E6S before with XLR connections, and would simply use both twisted pairs together as a single pair for unbalanced RCA connectors to the sub.

Sorry, have no direct experience with this cable. I'm sure it would work well with some decent RCA connectors.
As you probably know the Belden 89259 is rather unique due to its construction: Stranded bare copper center, Teflon insulation, bare copper shield with a Teflon jacket. Little stiff and costly but as a DIY cable matched with decent connectors its hard to beat.

I made my choice and I went with Outlaw. Although I hate their no return policy, beggars can't be choosers.
Dare I ask for someone to point me in the direction as far a speaker cable?
I'm looking for something that is 12 awg, looks really cool, and is cheap!
Onix?
Thanks,
James

Okay, Mark -- you sold me on the 89259. I got a deal I couldn't refuse with Bullet plugs from Dan at Heartland Cables, and he is assembling a 15m sub cable for me.

Think you will be happy with the 89259 based sub cable.
While I have bullet plugs in my system I am not a big fan of them. Way too fragile (plastic body and cover combination) especially with a fairly stiff cable like the 89259 coax. Performance wise they are comparable with the best RCA's and better than most. Overkill for sub cable use as just about any decently made RCA works well in this role but if the price was right then great.
Just make sure you have a gentle bend or better still a straight path where the cable and connector body meet and there should not be any problems.

Thanks for the installation help, Mark. Bullets weren't my choice -- they were my only option from Heartland.

James,
I'm not sure what you would qualify as "cheap" for speaker cables, but it is worth checking out www.boldercables.com for their M80 Speaker cables on sale this month.
I use the Bolder M80 IC's and their digital cable with Eichmann bullet plugs and am very happy with their performance.
They do have a good return policy, btw -- on all their cables.
Geordon,
I also own the 89259 as a sub cable (made by Bolder with Cardas RCA's) and I felt it was a better match than the Bolder M80 with Bullet plugs for my sub. YMMV, but either, plug or RCA's(as long as the RCA is quality!), you will appreciate the 89259. A bit stiff, but a killer cable.
Yep, I have a single 1.5m Bolder IC for sale if anyone is interested (it has standard Bullet plugs(not silver) and is mint.
The 89259 is simply a great DIY source for a cable to match the overpriced stuff on the net today.
Good Luck
BOK

Thanks for the link Brian, those look like great cables but they are a little out of my price range. I'm doing some fairly long runs so I need a cheaper option. I think I may need like 125" feet in cable.
Thanks James

Well let's see...speaker cable...how's about something in blue from Knukonceptz for 0.40/foot. Looks kinda sharp and a nice change from the clear stuff.

Chu,
Thanks for the link, that might be a very good option for me! Do you know anything about the company? I've never heard of them. Is this what you use?
