John at Stryke is testing waters for offering cnc endcaps for diy sonotubes. Respond at his website forum if you think this is a good idea. Sound like a good idea, will save a ton of time. Cutouts for his AV12 and AV15 and 4inch ports.

I could actually do cutouts for any drivers and port sizes. It would only take a few minutes to program the CNC for any configuration. Then I would have it for any future use as well.

I'll likely want a pair or two... I've also got a friend who wants to build what he's calling the ultimate giant vibrator... He's thinking of a floor to ceiling column... Maybe two...

This sounds interesting...but for someone who hasn't done any DIY before, this application wouldn't be suited for me, who's bought a Tempest to use as his driver, would it? John, maybe you could help us Adire users out? Having the endcaps predone would be great, since that's the hardest part for a student like me who doesn't do much woodworking...I have the driver and amp already, and know where to get the tube...just lazy too.

I found it strange that my "18 diameter" sonotube was actually 18.5 internal diameter

That isnt an uncommon occurance and may prove to be a problem that John and I have discussed.

Is there a pattern to Sonotube diameters discrepancies? My 20 inch is spot on 20. Sonotube brand. It seems that the 18s appear to be off more frequently. Maybe it's because 18 is the most popular diameter?

My 28" was closer to 27.75", so pre fabbing them could be a problem as 1/4-1/2" gap is a lot to try and seal tight.

Perhaps some sort of shimming system can be designed to help them fit better if the tube is not exactly the right ID.....

Well if he was just doing it order by order, maybe we could just get the best measurement possible and tell him to make them to those specs? That way it'd be our fault if we measured it wrong...

If he really would do that for us, I'll hopefully have a sub as soon as he gets his CNC machine spinning...I don't care about aesthetics for now, I just want the "boom" dammit
