TB W4-657s Crossover Help

Hi all,


Im Trying to design a single driver full range speaker similar to
CSS ELF1.5DK. I have Designed a Vented box using WinISD yeilding in a 6Litre box with a F3 of 69 Hz. My problem is I would like to Pad down the 5KHz to 15KHz to as flat as possible, but im not sure how to do this. Could someone assist me in doing this. Attached is the frequencey response graph of the driver.

You either use an electrical notch filter http://www.carstereo.com/help2/Articles.cfm?id=19 or use a mechanical solution for a mechanical problem by finding where the breakup is coming off the driver and damp it with a coating of Dammar, polyfil, or whatever.

That is the manufactures published frequency response and is most likely NOT what you will have in an enclosure of your design. Build the enclosure and see what it sounds like. If you have access to an spl meter or better yet a measurement system like Clio, make a measurement so you can adjust the response. You will need some kind of baffle step compensation. Usually an inductor around 500 Hz and a bypass resistor to reduce the spl 3 to 6 dB after 500 Hz. This is probably more important than a notch filter for a POSSIBLE peak at 10 kHz.

If you can generate .frd and .zma files, I can knock out a filter with baffle step compensation and flatten the notch in about 15 minutes.

If you can't measure them, you can use SPL Tracer (http://www.pvconsultants.com/audio/utility/spl.htm) to get them from the manufacturer's graphs. While there can be some discrepancies in manufacturer's graphs and in-box measurements, I should still be able to do better with traced info than could be done by ear.
