Yes, thank you very much Mr. Harris! I always wondered what that was and now the benefits of being a member of this forum have become even more apparent!

Re: Godfather Blu-ray Confirmed

Is anyone hearing some weird sound, almost like static, on the TrueHD track at certain points during The Godfather Part II? It occurs at various points during the movie, but two time stamps I can definitely point other people towards are:

00:19:16
03:12:14

I don't hear it on the mono track or any of the foreign language ones. I am playing the discs on a PS3 and have tried 2 different copies bought from 2 different stores with the same result.

Re: Godfather Blu-ray Confirmed

I just got my set last night--I'll see if it does that with my PS3 (though it could take some time--I have a schedule that sees films accumulating on my shelves faster than I can watch them).

OK. The good news is that I am not crazy , the bad news is that I heard this staticy, electronic interference sound too. Another good time stamp to check is 2:14:04.

It is very distracting and took me out of the movie a number of times. I did not hear it in the Mono track during the same time stamp. I also did not hear this during any part of The Godfather or The Godfather Part III. For the record, I am playing my discs on a Pioneer Elite BDP-HD1. It would appear there is either something wrong with the way Part II's TrueHD track is encoded or the way our players are handling it.

Edited to add:

Britton, which receiver are you using?

Re: Godfather Blu-ray Confirmed

Is this similar to the noise heard on the Walt Disney Treasures Donald Duck Vol. 1 set? On that set it almost sounded like static or a constant clicking. It affected about 1/2 of the cartoons.

No clicking, but definitely a staticy type sound. Also there is a bit of an electrical interference component to it as well.

In a follow-up to my earlier post, I tried playing another copy in my Pioneer Elite BDP-HD1 with the same result. I then took the disc downstairs and played in my PS3, which is connected directly to a plasma display, and heard the same sound. This effectively removes the receiver as the culprit in my book. One thing to note is that it may be very easy to missing this noise if you do not play your movies very loud. I was listening to the The Godfather Part II at reference (0) on my Pioneer Elite VSX-84TXSi, and, again, it was quite noticable to me at that level and very distracting. I had to strain to hear it, but am confident I did, at 75 (out of 100) on my display's speakers.

Re: Godfather Blu-ray Confirmed

My receiver is a Yamaha RX-V1700. Glad to know I'm not crazy either, but on the other hand, that sound was quite distracting! I'd be interested to find out if the DD 5.1 track on the DVDs has the same problem. There are various points throughout the movie where I hear it. It's not just those two scenes I initially posted.

I have no idea what is causing the problem, but I will probably just listen to the mono track from now on unless there's some sort of fix. It's shame because the TrueHD track is quite impressive otherwise...

Any updates on this mysterious static sound? I have a PS3 and I was planning on picking this set up soon.

Re: Godfather Blu-ray Confirmed

This is the music from the very end of the credits of the original version of Part II (taken from the previous DVD release). Note the sustained last chord:

http://homepage.mac.com/raulregalado...f2original.mp3

And here's the music from the restored version, leading into a new music cue for the additional credits. Note that the sustained chord is missing:

This comparison shows that a piece of the original film is missing from the restoration. Was this intentional, and if so, why? If it was a mistake, will there be a corrected edition?

Ok--how long is the "missing piece"? And is this really a "mistake" that necessitates a "do over"?
