Great job Mr. Harris to you and your team!
While clearly not as good as the first two, I think the relative critical disdain Part III received had more to do with its relative weakness compared to the first two parts rather than because it was a bad film. Had it not been a "Godfather" film, I suspect it would have gotten much better reviews. I remember seeing it opening night at a grand old cinema (The Imperial) in Montreal (they don't make them like that anymore and it has since been transformed into something other than just a cinema) and enjoying it quite a bit. Mine are "in the mail" and I hope to get them soon (I have them sent to my work in Vermont--where I go only once a week--to get free shipping but if the timing is off, it can arrive the day after I go and I have to wait another week to get them).

I agree completely. There's alot of really interesting stuff in it and it's a very good movie that has the impossible task of following two great movies.

Count me in on the "GF3 isn't as bad as people say" boat. Those two masterpieces were nearly impossible acts to follow. I think III was hurt most by 1) Duval not reprising his role, and 2) Ryder being replaced at the last minute by Sofia Coppola. Don't get me wrong, Sofia's proven to be a capable director, but she shouldn't be in front of a camera.

I agree that if both Duval and Ryder had played significant roles in Godfather 3, it would have been a better film and thought of more highly than it is now.

I finally got this set. All I can say is WOW! Beautiful work. Beautiful in 1972, 74, 90 and beautiful work on the restoration. Everyone involved should be very proud.

Re: Godfather Blu-ray Confirmed

Everybody's picking unfairly on Sofia Coppola in GF3. But other than that, I thought Andy Garcia was not suitable for the role too. His earlier parts as an unrestrained playboy were believable, but his transformation to a Don was utterly laughable. It seemed he was about to break into a laugh every time he put on the 'poker face'. It really is an embarrassing film. It was made with money in mind and it shows in every frame. The artistic enthusiasm of the 70's are gone.
Just my two cents.
Great restoration work though, the colors are vibrant and the irritable contrast wavering of the 2001 DVD's are gone. I only wish I had a bigger screen to watch it on.

Yes, of course I would have loved seeing Robert Duval and Winona in GF3, but as it is now it's certainly not a bad movie at all.

I like it and I'm glad it has been made. The trilogy is a worthy piece of art (and I can't wait until mine arrives and I'll be able to watch it once more).

Put me in the "Godfather III is not as bad as it's reputation" camp, too. While it has several flaws, the movie is still watchable. It just pales in comparison to the masterpieces that are the first two films.

I watched GF 1&2 yesterday and thought both looked wonderful.

I think Sofia Coppola isn't as bad as 'they' say but she's nowhere near the caliber of actor that she is sharing the screen with so that makes her stick out more.
