perfect storm. no HD sound ?
what is going on with warner with some of their blu ray realeases that are not in hd sound. the last samurai comes to mind. now the perfect storm. i was just reading the specs over at dvd active and it says the movie just has dolby ex. what the hell gives . there is no excuse for this not being in uncompressed sound or dolby true hd or dts high def master.somebody better ask these bozo's why. if this keeps up with them i am not going to be getting into blu ray any longer and sell what i have now which is about 36 blu ray discs. there have been a couple of other movies from other studios as well that were not in HD sound as well. one of the great things about hi def/ blu ray is the hd sound as well as the picture.

Re: perfect storm. no HD sound ?
I saw this too. What is with Warner? Can't they get this title right? First they screw up the transfer on the HD-DVD release and now they give us a sub-par audio track on the Blu-Ray. I'm hoping they at least get the transfer right this time.
I was hoping to replace my HD-DVD copy, since the picture quality on that is pretty hideous.

Re: perfect storm. no HD sound ?
Didn't the HD DVD have both Dolby TrueHD and DD+? If so, I wonder why those were dropped from the Blu-ray.

Re: perfect storm. no HD sound ?
That's odd. blu-ray.com said it would have a DD THD track, but, obviously, that isn't the case. I wonder if this title was pressed a while ago (i.e. before there was consistent BD player DD THD support), but waiting to be released due to whatever exclusive arrangement had been worked out between Toshiba and Warner Bros.

Re: perfect storm. no HD sound ?
Yes, HD DVD has both Dolby TrueHD and DD+ EX (DD+ still probably 640kbps, so it doesn´t really matter that much). It was also one of the titles, where the transfer was said to be just upconverted to 1080p from a 1080i master.. Not sure.
I thought that the Blu-ray-version is out on July? Still, the back cover doesn´t list "Dolby TrueHD":
DVD Empire - Item - Perfect Storm, The / Blu-ray
I guess we´ll know for sure after the first reviews.. I´ve personally seen this film too many times (couple of weeks ago from TV last time), so I probably pass.

Re: perfect storm. no HD sound ?
It's possible the mock cover is wrong. Remember the cover of Twister? ("Don't breath.")

Re: perfect storm. no HD sound ?
Bill Hunt spoke to Warner Bros. and confirmed that both this movie and V for Vendetta would have a Dolby Digital TrueHD track.

Re: perfect storm. no HD sound ?
I just hope we get a proper, new 1080P transfer for the BD.

Wow. Ask and you shall receive...
Per thedigitalbits.com:
Quote:
First, a number of you had concerns about The Perfect Storm BD (due 7/22). The HD-DVD transfer had some troubling technical issues, but those appear to have been corrected for the BD version. Here's Warner's response on the subject:
"The BD release we have produced for Perfect Storm includes the new 1080p master. This is a brand new encode of a brand new 1080p master."
|
This is slightly off-topic, but could someone direct me to the complete listed of Warner 'bobbed' HD titles? I'm particularly curious to know whether any of the 'bobbed' HD DVD titles were released 'bobbed' on BD. The above news gives me great hope of the eventually Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory BD having a new 1080p transfer.

Re: perfect storm. no HD sound ?
(Warner: "The BD release we have produced for Perfect Storm includes the new 1080p master. This is a brand new encode of a brand new 1080p master.")
Let´s hope that this really refers to the upcoming Blu-ray-release.. Perhaps some PR-person didn´t fully understand the question (that some early HD/Blu-ray-titles from Warner were apparently taken from the 1080i-master)?
Anyway, good news if this is from the proper 1080p-master.
Not sure that was this "bobbed"-thingy ever fully confirmed (at least by the studio), but these films were on the list at least:
-Enter the Dragon
-The Perfect Storm
-The Fugitive
-Full Metal Jacket (Original Version)
-Lethal Weapon 2
-Caddyshack (?)
