Echo Bridge on Blu-ray

Well, that didn't take long. I thought it would still be awhile before the lower tier studios put out thier releases on Blu-ray. Yet, here's Echo Bridge. I have mixed feelings about this because there are no reviews I can find anywhere on this weeks Blu-ray releases from them. I hope the're all 1080p and PCM 5.1 and not sd dvds ported over to Blu just to cash in on the increasing popularity. That, and with the low price on these at around $10-$15, may give the impression that people will accept inferior transfers. Maybe I'm getting ahead of myself a bit. I should just wait for a review. But still, it does concern me. On the other hand, if they have quality product to offer in the way of PQ and AQ, then, bravo Echo Bridge. This is the first lower end studio to release on the format I've seen so my excitement is high. It's all starting to happen

Check out Echo Bridge's website. The CEO is a man named Michael Rosenblatt who was the producer of Teen Wolf, Valley Girl, Cop and A Soldier's Tail. I think they have a bit more credibility than if they were just releasing public domain films or something. They seem to be picking up a lot of independently made films

Of course they might be doing it on the cheap, but I think I'd give them the benefit of the doubt for now.

Re: Echo Bridge on Blu-ray

I have done some of their (SD DVD) reviews in the past and they have several of these different mini-series and some independent stuff. They probably also have some "public domain"-stuff, but it´s not that they´re purely into them. So If you like those more cheaper sci-fi/disaster/suspense/etc mini-series from "Sci-fi channel" and other cable channels, this company might hold some interest for you (since they distribute many of those series/TV-films in SD DVD and now some of them in BD).

The quality has been fairly decent, but some of their 5.1-mixes have been a bit weak (e.g. with some of the 5.1-tracks, it was just basically Mono-track duplicated to all 3 front channels, with added “echo” on the rear).

But it´s good that the smaller companies also release films in Blu-ray.

I think the weak sound mixes may have more to do with the fact that they pick up a lot of low budget and independent films than anything else. They probably don't have anything to do with the way the films were shot or mixed as these are negative pickup deals.

Could be, but some (not all) are weak nevertheless. Then again, this happens too often with smaller labels and 5.1 (re)mixes..
