Nope, not a fan. It doesn't hold true to the spirit of the film inside.
|
Perhaps, but I still did kind of like the simplicity of the design

Well it doesn't have that pop art feel, but it is an accurate reproduction of the wheel caps of the Batmobile.

True enough, but how many people are going to associate the hubcaps with the show as opposed to the color scheme or the "camp" feel of the series? I'm thinking there's going to be people confusing this release with the 1989 Tim Burton film...

Re: TCFHE Press Release: BATMAN: The Movie Special Edition (Blu-ray)
I have to applaud the folks at Fox.
That cover art is anything from what I expected it to be.
It seems likely that they made that cover as "vague" as
possible and very similar to that of the Warner movies.
In other words, if everything plays out as expected, people are
going to mistake this '60s title for the more recent films.
It's a brilliant cover if that was indeed the plan.
In any event, I have always been a fan of the '60s TV show
and this is a great, great film that showcases exactly what that
show was all about. I am very pleased Fox released this right
out of the gate.

Re: TCFHE Press Release: BATMAN: The Movie Special Edition (Blu-ray)
Holy misleading cover art!
Okay not misleading in substance but in style. If someone unfamiliar with the 1960s TV series watches this expecting it to be stylistically related to the more recent films they are being set up for a disappointment. Although if Fox and DC would come to an agreement with the series proper...
Still, can't beat the idea of a DTS-HD music score. I hope this will be a recurring feature on Fox catalog titles.

I'm sure one glance at the back cover and any pictures on it will end any consumer confusion.
My DVD/BD Collection
"A man just naturally can't take the law into his own hands and hang people without hurtin' everybody in the world, 'cause then he's just not breaking one law but all laws. Law is a lot more than words you put in a book, or judges or lawyers or sheriffs you hire to carry it out. It's everything people ever have found out about justice and what's right and wrong. It's the very conscience of humanity. There can't be any such thing as civilization unless people have a conscience, because if people touch God anywhere, where is it except through their conscience? And what is anybody's conscience except a little piece of the conscience of all men that ever lived? I guess that's all I've got to say except kiss the babies for me and God bless you." - Martin's letter, The Ox-Bow Incident

I wonder if this could be considered a dig at Warner and the claims that an agreement can not be made over the tv show due to them not wanting to do anything to tarnish the current franchise (even though I think that claim is bullshit).

I like this movie, & this looks like something I might buy.
The price point, though, is absurd, & has nobody told Fox management that the Canadian dollar is worth more than the U.S. dollar these days?

Re: TCFHE Press Release: BATMAN: The Movie Special Edition (Blu-ray)
Actually, our dollar is trading at 98.53 cents US as of earlier this afternoon, but on the whole, your point still stands. I don't mind books that were printed 18 months ago that are still on the shelves with the greater gap on the inner sleeve (hardcover) or on the back (paperback)--as long as the store has made an adjustment--but this is, frankly, insulting. It's not like the disc has to be wrapped in sheepskin to protect it from our winter or anything.

At least this one will be fully loaded with extra content though. Even more that what is on the current DVD.
I do hate the Fox pricing as much as anyone, but I am getting an itch to buy this. I'll see how the reviews look first.

Even before I decided I didn't think it accurately reflected the tone of the film, I felt CERTAIN this was a deliberate ploy to confuse buyers. I'd bet at least a thousand dollars on it (virtual dollars, of course ).
