Problem with Sahara HD-DVD
I went Blu-Ray after Warner's announcement earlier this year but due to the recent large price reductions, I picked up an Xbox HD-DVD drive and a small amount of HD-DVD discs. Getting the drive to work on my PC was a snap and most of the titles I have look great on my Sharp 1080p LCD...with the exception of one--- Sahara.
What I am seeing looks like something to do with interlacing. It is only obvious when text is displayed. Instead of rock-solid characters, they seem to have a wavy motion. Since all five of my other HD-DVDs play just fine, I have no reason to suspect my hardware or PowerDVD settings (I using PowerDVD Ultra 7.x).
I am curious to see what a true HD-DVD player would do with the disc when connected to my same display but unless stand-alone players dramatically drop in price also, that won't be happening.
Anyone have any idea what might be going on here? The only thought that came to my mind was maybe the disc is actually 1080i instead of 1080p, but that idea vanished after I found no negative reviews online. Also, my Sharp handles 1080i signals very well. Nothing like what I am seeing with Sahara.
