Tartan Video Spring Blu-ray Disc Slate

'Paranoid Park,' 'Proposition' Lead Tartan Spring Blu-ray Slate | High-Def Digest

Quote:
Tartan Video has revealed their Blu-ray release schedule for this spring, a six-strong slate headlined by the acclaimed dramas 'Paranoid Park' and 'The Proposition.'

The wave begins on April 14 with the Asian chiller 'A Tale of Two Sisters,' followed two weeks later on April 28 by Gus Van Sant's acclaimed teen drama 'Paranoid Park.'

A double-header from 'Oldboy' director Park Chan-Wook will follow on May 26, with separate stand-alone releases of his comedic-fantasy 'I'm a Cyborg,' and thriller 'Lady Vengeance.'

Finally, June 23 will see the release of rocker Nick Cave's critically-praised revisionist western 'The Proposition,' and the animated Korean cult favorite 'Sky Blue.'

Tartan has yet to issue full press releases for the six titles, so tech specs and supplement details remain TBA.

Suggested retail prices for each Blu-ray have been set at $34.95.

As we await full announcements, you'll find preliminary specs for all six titles linked from our Blu-ray Release Schedule, where they're indexed under their respective street dates.

See what people are saying about this story in our forums area, or check out other recent discussions.

Personally, I am most excited for 'Lady Vengeance' and 'A Tale of Two Sisters'. I certainly hope 'Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance' isn't too far behind.

The Proposition's cinematography should really shine on Blu-ray. Seeing the vast expanses on display in this film and the subtleties of the coloring of the skylines should be quite the treat in High Definition.

Ooh, that's some good stuff. I've been looking forward to I'm a Cyborg (not even a theatrical release here!), was very fond of The Proposition and Lady Vengeance, and liked Wonderful Days (aka Sky Blue) and A Tale of Two Sisters well enough in theaters, though not enough to buy them. Van Sant, I can generally do without (even if Christopher Doyle is shooting this one).

Heck, has Days/Blue ever shown up on DVD in the US before? It seemed to vanish into a hole after its minuscule theatrical release, with questions about its availability popping up even a couple years later.

Hmm... Those dates are Mondays, when movies get released in the UK. Are we sure these are Region A releases?

EDIT: Paranoid Park doesn't even open theatrically until this Friday (and doesn't expand to us here in Boston until at least next week); I kind of doubt its US home video release will come in late April.

I may pick up the Proposition if I can get it for a good price. That's about it.

Wasn't impressed with Lady Vengeance but I'll probably rent Sky Blue if I can. Can't say any of the others do all that much for me.

Well, last time I looked, Tartan was a UK publisher. As to region coding, I know it's pretty much in disfavour in Europe, so who knows?

True enough. It's just odd that the prices are listed in dollars and the piece is being run without mentioning that fact on a site that generally defaults to North American news, in that case.

There´s also "Tartan US". It has released "Oldboy" on Blu-ray (among the several SD DVD-releases)..

Tartan UK has released also "Oldboy" + "Black Book AKA Zwartboek", and "The Seventh Seal AKA Det Sjunde inseglet " on Blu-ray (all of these UK-releases are "Region Free").

These ( 'Paranoid Park,' 'Proposition' Lead Tartan Spring Blu-ray Slate | High-Def Digest ) should be "Tartan US"-releases.

Except, again, there's no way Paranoid Park is released on US video on a Monday barely a month and a half after its theatrical premiere.

Re: Tartan Video Spring Blu-ray Disc Slate

So these are "Tartan UK"-releases after all? Well, earlier UK (Blu-ray) -releases were "R0", so I assume that these´ll be also..
