ok ive been tring to find the answer for this and i cant seem to find it.
I know that HD DVD is done and they wont make them anymore, the movies that are only on HD dvd (transformers ect) will they be re-released on blue ray or should i grab up someones collection and buy a HD player for cheap to watch these movies that arnt on blueray? sorry if this is a stupid question but im new to all of this.

First off, welcome to the forum. If I have no financial investment in either HDM format at this time and have decided to buy into it now that the format war is over then I would look into Blu-ray players and software. It's only a matter of time before titles like "Transformers" makes it onto BRD. Depending on your budget restaints proceed cautiously as prices should change in the coming year.

Also, it would seem likely that all titles that are currently HD DVD exclusive would be among some of the first to go to Blu Ray since the company will already have an HD transfer ready to go.

Fair enough, but some of those HD DVD titles (Universal's Traffic comes to mind) had issues that may delay their appearance on BD for awhile. I think the first titles you're going to see on BD are likely to be newer releases like the Bourne films, Transformers, and it's possible that Paramount may just dust off its stock of Blades of Glory and get those in the pipe right away.

All of the major studios are now backing Blu-ray 100%. Transformers already has been mastered on BD, it's just a matter of release now (that statement comes straight from director Michael Bay).

The films released by Universal and Paramount will eventually be on BD as well, it's just a matter of when.

If you're impatient and wnat some Uni and Para films in HD, then the firesales wouldn't be a bad idea.

Yeah, I'd expect newer titles to get ported to Blu-ray reasonably quickly, but some of the catalog titles might take as many as a few years since they haven't sold well (or could possibly use a new transfer).

I'm only Blu right now, but I too am tempted to take the plunge on a clearance priced HDD player to go w/ a bunch of clearance priced catalog titles (mainly Universal).

Since either this thread or your other thread elsewhere asking the same question will get locked, I'll repeat what I said there:

If the studios felt they could make a profit on those titles on HD DVD, they are surely going to try and make a profit on them to the much-larger Blu-ray customer base. It's just a question of when the individual titles get released.

As for buying up titles now, that's entirely down to whether the cost of an HD DVD player and being able to watch them now outweighs the (unknown) wait for them to appear on Blu-ray.

ok cool thanks for the help guys. This is by FAR the best forum i have ever been a member of. and sorry about the double post i posted in the wrong forum. I guess ill just wait for the ps3 to price drop and then start with the blu-ray collection ive waited this long i can wait a tad bit longer.

If you plan to get the PS3, why wait for a price drop? Just go get a new Sony credit card (w/ Chase) and buy it from a Sony store (whether online or locally) w/ $100 back (and 12-month no interest), if you don't mind going that route:

Get $100 card credit

It's an excellent deal considering the PS3 doesn't get discounted anywhere. That's how I did it back in late December.
