Starsky & Hutch (2004) UK Bluray Missing Subtitles

On Monday they released this here in the UK from Buena Vista as they handled the UK rights for this title (same scenario as Crimson Tide, The Rock, Air Force One, Starship Troopers and several others released on Region B several months before before Region A as the UK rights holders are different to the US).

Bought it as I really enjoy watching this movie.

PQ is very good. 1080P sharp picture almost perfect apart from a few small grain specks here and there which are usually dark speckles so not very noticeable anyway. Lot more PQ detail than the SD, colour is also more natural looking (especially the fleshtones)

Soundtrack is uncompressed PCM 5.1 (4.6MBs) and sounds a lot clearer than before especially some of the dialogue which was hard to make out at times on the DVD.

Extras all look to be the exact same as the DVD.

One massive issue and the reason I mention all this here as I think the title needs a remaster or the PS3 needs another firmware update (I am running 2.10).

About an hour in there is a couple of funny scenes with Hutch talking (about Starsky) in another asian language to a would be assassin the duo have just arrested. As well as the assassin telling his son beforehand to throw many knifes at the cops (again subtitled on the DVD). On The R1 DVD these subtitles appear to be burned into the transfer as they appear on screen in Yellow text above the widescreen bars on the image.

The subtitles appear to be totally missing from this Bluray when no subtitles are selected!! I was viewing on a UK PS3 @ 720P on a 40" Samsung 720P HDTV via HDMI 1.3. No options I could find to enable them in the PS3 menu either whilst the movie is running or in the disc menus. It would appear that the only way to get these to appear is to turn the English subtitles on for the movie then turn them off again.

Very sloppy as everyone knows Bluray is supposed to be high end home AV.
