According to my friend who works at Borders, the memo from corporate went out yesterday morning to pull the product off the shelves and send them back. They should be gone from all Borders stores now.

I wonder what happens to them after they get sent back? I'm guessing that one of the online retailers (DD, Amazon, Buy.com) will be the clearing house for them.

I don't know about that. There seems to be conflicting schools of thought on the matter. Myself, I believe that the studios don't want to devalue HD on disc, and therefore there won't be much in the way of bargains beyond what we've already seen. Afterall, in the long run it may be in the studios best interest to eat the costs associated with pressed HD DVDs if they can preserve their margin on Blu-ray Discs.

One has to remember that the BOGOs from last year were an anomaly. One probably funded by the BDA and HD DVD PRG to gain market share. Now that there is no more market share for the BDA to gain at the HD DVD PRG expense, all the studios affiliated with the BDA want to preverse the margins they got into HD for to begin with.

Re: Borders 57street pulled HD dvds off Shelf

People actually shop at Borders? Last time I was in there everything seemed so over-priced, knowing exactly what I'd paid for some of the same titles elsewhere, that all I could do was laugh at anyone that actually bought movies there.

Seriously though. Is Amazon gonna drop them out of the blue too or will we see them stocked as long as there are still discs to go around? I hope we at least get some advance warning here. There are at least 3 or 4 movies I still want to get if I can find them under $15.
