Is Stargate (BD) the same cut as Ultimate Edition (SD)?
I'm looking at the times and they don't match up. It seems the BD release is a longer version. Was this never made available on SD-DVD? IMDB says there's a version that's 2 minutes longer than the BD runtime though (130 minutes vs 128). Where's this one?

Re: Is Stargate (BD) the same cut as Ultimate Edition (SD)?
The BD is the Director's Cut. It was available on DVD in at least two incarnations. The Special Edition had the DC on one side and the
TC on the other. The Ultimate Edition (the first with passable video) devoted 1 disc to each.
I prefer the theatrical cut, which is why I haven't bought the Blu-ray.
IMDB is the first I've heard of three runtimes.
Perhaps the UE has longer credits due to resoration work, or the new sound mix.

Well, at least some BD releases are being done right. I wish I could say the same for Punisher.
I'm also curious as to why Wyat Earp is listed as "(DC)." The time listed is the same as the DVD, so it's not the director's cut. Stranger yet is the fact the DC was only ever released on VHS, to my knowledge.

Re: Is Stargate (BD) the same cut as Ultimate Edition (SD)?
The BD is the director's cut.
A word of warning: the subtitles are screwed up in this BD!!!
It's an all or nothing situation. If subtitles are set to off, the alien language subtitles do not pop up. So you won't understand Ra or the alien peoples (unless you've memorized the film). If you turn subs on, you will get the alien language plus all of the English language dialogue as well.
A frustrating bug which I've tried to email Lionsgate about, but they do not respond.
Any help from other Stargate fans would be appreciated!
Email Lionsgate, let them know this error needs to be corrected!

There was a long-running AVS forum thread about this. Some people received corrected copies.
Another reason to pass on this first BD release. No theatrical cut and screwed up subs to boot!
The DC gives away too much too early for me. More fun to discover things with the characters. And the DC opening just seems redundant with the flashback later anyway. I liked the sandstorm sequence in the DC, but that's about it.

Re: Is Stargate (BD) the same cut as Ultimate Edition (SD)?
Update re: Subtitles
Several months ago I emailed LGF repeatedly only to be ignored completely - no reply whatsoever. Today, after posting my reply above, I decided what the heck, to try again.
To my surprise, someone replied very quickly from LGF and has offered to ship me out a replacement. I asked if the error had been fixed and if there was a way to tell between correct and incorrect copies (i.e. different SKUs).
She said that all currently available copies should be corrected. I will wait until I get my new BD before claiming this issue is fixed.
FWIW - I don't have a preference between the DC and Original. They both have strengths the other doesn't, but none that stir up a passion in me to prefer one over the other.

Re: Is Stargate (BD) the same cut as Ultimate Edition (SD)?
While I have no preference of cut (the additional material manages to neither add nor take away much), I will say that the Theatrical cut had way better PQ than the extended cut on the 2-disc Ultimate Edition DVD release, and that, more than anything, is why the theatrical cut gets the most play at my house.
Of course, I'm sure the blu-ray of the Extended cut eats it for breakfast, but I'll wait for a package that's a little less bare-bones. I don't want to have to keep both on my shelf.

It has been corrected. If you search for the thread on AVSForum you'll find the correct person to send your bad disc to. They'll send you back a corrected disc with fixed subtitles no questions asked. I got mine back in a few weeks.
