We Are Marshall HD DVD - Known bad discs

I was just reading the Combo Disc sticky topic and noticed that a couple of folks sent in their We Are Marshall discs for analysis. Well, I wish I had read the thread sooner because Warner is fully aware of a problem with SOME of these discs. It is NOT the typical combo disc problem. It is believed to be an encoding problem in the early replication run only. EVERY disc in that early run was bad, including the standard def side (my SD side wouldn't even play properly in my standard def Oppo player). Warner caught the problem pretty fast but, unfortunately, some of the first batch had already shipped to retailers. I got my We Are Marshall from Amazon and it had the problem. Warner replaced the disc for me and the replacement plays perfectly.

Anyway, I thought I would mention it in case anyone else decided to send in their We Are Marshall disc.

Re: We Are Marshall HD DVD - Known bad discs

It's a weird problem. I was one posting in that thread, and my HD-A1 choked on my original disc. I did the swap, with a disc that Microsoft said they had tested on an A1 and that it tested out perfectly, and it choked on my A1 too, repeatably. So we're moving on to another attempt to figure out what the issue is, but they are trying to get to the bottom of why it will play in some players of the same model and not others.

Re: We Are Marshall HD DVD - Known bad discs

I talked to Warner. If you have one of the We Are Marshall discs from the bad batch, it won't play properly in ANY player. Even the standard def side will give you problems. It's not the pressing, it's the encoding.

Now, I guess there could be discs with a different problem (and, thus, play on one player but not on another). That might explain your experience.
