What audio track will The Bourne Ultimatum have?
I have been trying to find out if The Bourne Ultimatum will get Dolby True HD or will it get the tyoical choice of Dolby Digital Plus? This is the one thing that I find to be frustrating. I love how on the HD-DVD trailers they say up to 7.1 lossless audio. But only a small percentage of the titles actually have lossless audio on them.
I love my HD-DVD player and the picture looks awsum and it sound great when lossless is used. I am hoping someone here knows what the audio specs are going to be for The Bourne Ultimatum.

Re: What audio track will The Bourne Ultimatum have?
Are you saying it doesn't sound good when a lossy track like Dolby Digital plus is used?
I beg to differ. The Dolby Digital plus tracks I have heard have all sounded excellent.

Re: What audio track will The Bourne Ultimatum have?
As far as I am concerned Dolby Digital Plus is nothing more than a hot rod version of standard lossy Dolby Digital. While I am greatly impressed with Dolby True HD, I can not say that Dolby Digital Plus does the same. I own a good number of DD+ titles on HD-DVD and I am not impressed. It still is based on DD and it still lacks transparancy and it still sounds muddy.
While Dolby Digital plus has higher bitrate per channel and is capible of 7.1 channels. I have never seen anything on Dolby's web site that said it was lossless. I think a good movie for an example is Matrix Revolutions, I honestly feel that the Dolby True HD track blows the Dolby Digital Plus track away. There are other movies on HD-DVD where I feel that Dolby True HD is superior to its DD+ cousin. I would rather have true lossless on any HD release, sorry.

Hello Adam,
Currently yes, I am using a Yamaha RX-V995 receiver but I am looking to upgrade it in a few months. When I actually purchase my new receiver I will use the 995 for my PC surround system. I am looking at the Denon AVR-3808ci and the Pioneer Elite VSX-94TXH here in the next few months. The next step in the plan is to upgrade my Sony BDP-S300 to a Denon or Pioneer Elite Blu-ray player.

You are comparing on a Warner disc. Warner never encodes DD+ above 640 kb/s. Comparing lossless TrueHD to a 640 DD+ track isn't exactly apples to apples. DD+ at 1.5 mb/s, as is implemented by Paramount and Universal, on the other hand is very, very close to lossless quality. So close, in fact, that I would be willing to bet a paycheck that no one on this forum could tell high bit rate DD+ from lossless in a level matched, blind comparison.
Even at 640 kb/s, it would take a very experienced listener, someone that knows what to listen for, to pick a 640 DD+ track from lossless with any certainty.
Also, as your avatar attests, you aren't the best source for unbiased assessments of any Dolby product.

Hello Robert,
How was your thanksgiving? Hope you had a good one. Anyway many people here know I am a big supporter of DTS. And with my avitar it is kind of obvious. I have not cared for Dolby Digital and I most likely never will. I also feel that while Dolby Digital Plus is an improvement over Dolby Digital. I would not go as far to say its a huge improvement, IMHO they took DD and assigned more bits and 2 more channels.

I have also stated in other treads that I am very impressed with Dolby True HD. And I will also go as far to say that I actually have started to look for the Dolby True HD logo on HD titles. So while I love DTS I feel I am still open minded enough to listen to other formats. I was hoping before Pirates Of The Caribbean was released for Blu-ray that it might have DTS-HD MA. But I kinda figured that it most likely wouldn't so I then was hoping that it would at least have a really nice Dolby True HD track. Well we all know that Disney ended up offering a uncompressed PCM track which is awsume. Dolby has been in the industry for along time and they have made alot of contributions towards the advancement of sound. I just feel that recently DTS is the way to go, but with Dolby True HD sounding so dam good. Dolbys stock is back on the rise and I have no problem giving Dolby credit where credit is due.
My main stereo speakers in my 5.1 system are Altec Lancing Voice Of The Theater A-7's. They are very efficient and very detail oriented speakers. Standard 640k Dolby sound horible with my Altec A-7's and DTS on the other hand shines. And to my knowledge Dolby True HD is backward compatible with older Dolby decoders. So even if someone does not have DTHD decoding, they can still listen to the legacy Dolby audio track. So I do not see a need for DD+ based on that and that it is not as good as True HD. When I go shopping for HD titles I look for DTS-HD MA, Dolby True HD and PCM. Even if a title has DD+ I see no reason to be excited over the title based on a DD+ audio track. I am just not sold on Dolby's hype of DD+ and the majority of HD-DVD titles have DD+. The HD-DVD titles I really like are the ones with Dolby True HD. I spent most of my younger life listing to high end gear and it has been my hobby for most of my life. While my ht is not the best there is, it still puts out some good performance for the money.
Have a Merry Chrismas and a Happy New Year
