No doubt there were versions of this disc pressed with the announcement coming only a few weeks before the release of this film on disc, so naturally they would show up somewhere outside of the continental US. So with them pressed and ready to go, you don't think they are going to just let them sit and gather dust while the "war" goes on do you?

For $150 million, I'm sure they'll be happy for them to gather dust.

BTW, this isn't the first time Paramount has stuck a title in storage. Grease was pressed for DVD back in 1998 but wasn't released until a few years later. Those discs sat in storage all that time.

Whether the commitment is 6 months, 18 months, or 50 years. I find it hard to believe Paramount would lock themselves into a 'indefinite commitment". I would say that to any studio who has a commitment to either format. And if for some reason its indefinite.

If there's no set timeframe then the commitment is indefinite: the very definition of the word. Maybe you were thinking of another word? They also aren't locking them themselves into anything, as per the description 'indefinite'; they could stay with HD DVD exclusively for ten years, or they could start supporting Blu-ray again next Tuesday.

They're getting the best of both worlds.

Really? Then I guess this has no bearing either:

Then its the lawyers from Toshiba who are crazy. I would think their would have to be some kind of minimum amount of time Paramount HAS to stay exclusive. It would be funny if in a month Paramount changes its mind and keeps the money.

On side note. I don't own either format. So I don't keep up on release dates for either format. But, were their any other Paramount movies due for release on BR around this time besides Blades of Glory? If so, I wonder if any other movies might be pressed in BR and are not sitting in storage.

Bring back John Doe! Or at least resolve the cliff-hanger with a 2hr movie or as an extra on a dvd release.

I think the 18 month time frame that everyone is talking about (if it is anything) is the time frame in which the HD DVD group will promote Paramount film.

These are the ones I saw listed as canceled SKUs:

Blades of Glory
Next
Top Gun
The Jack Ryan Collection
Face/Off

Existing Paramount BD titles would be sold as is until sold out and no more would be distributed.

From what I understand there wasn't any cash involved, just ongoing incentives (cheap/free marketing tie-ins with manufacturers, low cost or free technical support and subsidies etc.). Probably similar to the benefits Buena Vista is getting from the BDA. If Paramount pulled out of whatever agreement they have, then the incentives would just come to a halt.

From what I understand there were already good practical incentives for Paramount to drop Blu-ray, despite the format's higher sales volumes. These included reduced production subsidies from the BDA and Sony, lower per-disc profit margins and a lack of PiP and network features (both of which will be featured on the upcoming Transformers. PiP has already been used in previous Paramount's HD DVD releases, but not on their Blu-ray releases). The sweeteners from the HD DVD PRG just pushed Paramount over the top.

Thanks Adam and everyone else for answering my question. So if in two months Sony decides they want Paramount back and offer similar incentives. Paramount could just cancel the deal and they would just lose any incentives they hadn't gotten yet? (For HD-DVD fans. I am not saying they are. Just posing a question. )

Re: Blades of Glory on Blu-Ray found in Canada...

So, some assclown at AVS who refused to accept that this guy actually has a legit copy called Paramount - faking that he was the press, mind you - and now the auction is pulled.

The auction was pulled for some legal mumbo-jumbo that is total BS.

He'll sell it eventually. There's no legal reason whatsoever preventing him from posting the auction again.

1. He bought the disc legally. If it was stolen by someone and then sold to the used game store he bought it at, that's not his fault. Again, he bought it legally.

2. He has pictures to prove it is real and not a fake. As someone who QC's Blu-ray discs I can say this is clearly legit and not some photoshopped wizardry. You can't fake pictures like those in post #407 - http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showt...898162&page=14

IMO, this just means the item will be seen as "more rare" and he'll still get hundreds for it.

EDIT: Hey, this post got quoted by "Missions" over at AVS. Pretty cool. Gotta love the internet. (And I fixed a spelling error, but will forever be quoted with the
