Monty Python's 'Life of Brian' on Blu-Ray

Another must have for me.

Quote:
Sony Pictures Home Entertainment has announced it will bring a new version of Monty Python's 'Life of Brian' to Blu-ray this November. 'Life of Brian' has been released in many past incarnations on disc, most notably a Criterion Collection laserdisc as well as a previous Collector's Edition from Sony on standard-def DVD.

Now, the studio is preparing yet another new anniversary edition for November 6, due day-and-date on Blu-ray and DVD.

  • Pioneer VSX-94TXH, Panasonic PT-AE 2000U 1080p (delivered but not mounted yet)
  • 252 HD DVDs, 65 BD DVDs, and over 1560 - SD DVDs and going down
  • New buying strategy - I will continue to buy Universal and Paramount HD DVD's, but if it available in both formats, Blu-ray now gets my purchase.

"Stwike him, Centuwion. Stwike him vewy wuffly!"

Looks like a must have release (though I'm sure someone will find something about this to whine about). I'm happy to retire my Criterion, the PQ looks like ass.

Full specs:

Quote:

Among the extras new to this release are "The Story of Brian," a 60-minute documentary, and "The Readthrough," an original illustrated 110-minute audio recording of the Pythons reading an early version of the film's screenplay. Also on the Blu-ray will be features from Sony's previous DVD release, including two audio commentaries with members of the Pythons, five deleted scenes and vintage radio spots.
Tech specs include a 1080p video transfer and uncompressed PCM 5.1 surround audio.
Sony has set a $28.99 list price for the Blu-ray.

The Collection (Blu-Ray High Definition/DVD)

Pre-orders - BLU-RAY: Akira, The Dark Knight, The Day the Earth Stood Still, Death Proof, King Kong, La Femme Nikita, Planet Terror, Raging Bull, Ronin, The Third Man DVD: .................

I saw it in its theatrical rerelease, and it looked pretty grimy there too. That look isn't my cup of tea, but perhaps that's what the directors wanted?

Will we also be getting Monty Python and the Holy Grail?

Picture quality of "Monty Python's Life of Brian" (Blu-ray)?

Hopefully Lowry/DTS won't meddle with the colors and white levels the way they did on the Disney and 007 projects they were handed.

Re: Monty Python's 'Life of Brian' on Blu-Ray

I've read a couple of reviews of the Blu-Ray release and I'm trying to determine whether I can retire my Criterion DVD or not.

Does anybody know whether all of the suppliments are actually carried over from the Criterion DVD? The review from DVD Authority says they are, but I don't see any mention of the 50 minute documentary, The Pythons.

It looks like the prices on the BD are only going to be a few dollars more than the SD version.

For example: Amazon.com: SD-$16.99 BD-$19.95

There's Jessie the yodeling cowgirl. Bullseye, he's Woody's horse. Pete the old prospector. And, Woody, the man himself. Of course, it's time for Woody's RoundUp. He's the very best! He's the rootinest, tootinest cowboy in the wild, wild west!

I bought it in one of the amazon buy-one-get-one-free sales, so I only paid about $10.

Me too, except it was less than $8. Man, I miss the BOGOs and 10% discount already.

Got it (it's been out in Region B for some time). Picture and sound are both fine, but not top notch demonstration quality (but who on earth would buy this movie as a demo disc anyway?).
